2G Double DIN stereo

A double DIN radio/DVD will attach just like the 1 DIN. They all attach to the OEM radio bracket the same way. Only thing you'll have to do is get some trim/bezel to make it fit perfectly with the OEM radio bezel. The trim is usually included with the new radio tough, you just have to trim it to fit

DSM Prospect...I don't know if you have the available space for it. I ordered a single din kit for a future motorized touch screen. But now I'm thinking....would it even have enough clearance for the shifter?:ohdamn: Has anyone installed a motorized flip screen radio in their M/T DSM? I just don't want to have to keep reaching around it if i install the dbl din radio.

Iv installed a motorized single din with the pop out screen. It would hitting shifter. I'm auto though. Now I have a double din. Fits beautiful. Kinda seems like it belongs, hopefully you have the brackets that were on the factory double din.

Yeah...but see how close the shifter is to your screen. I wanna try to avoid that and I also want to avoid damaging the screen when it motorizes out...gonna have to think this one out..

I remember a guy that had put his flip screen in the center vents in the dash instead of the radio area. It looked good and was perfect in terms of location as it's at eye level. You could always do that.

Shifter is about 4-5 inches from screen. A complete flip out screen will hit. In my case I just go down to "D" or first gear and it would clear. I don't use CDs so it's not a problem with a double din. But anyways it does fit looks good and functional.

Also my car is coming to me with no stereo just a huge double din hole with the trim piece. So ill be replacing everything speakers included.

Also I'd like to ask if there are any other spyder owners out there, with subs in their trunk? I have some pretty strong 12's I'd like to use, but am worried about breaking the rear glass when the top is down. Does this happen, and how does the mechanism for the convertible, handle all the excess vibration?

If you want my opinion, and you have a recent Android/iPhone, then get a Pioneer AppRadio 2. It's a clean, nice looking head unit, and it uses your phone as the car PC, which has sweet navigation, audio, video, etc. It really is the best way.

I have android, and you should read the CNET review on app radio 2, I considered it until then.

I have an AppRadio 2 with the ARLiberator app. My experience trumps CNET's bias. Honestly, it's the only setup I'd ever consider at this point.

EDIT: Having read that review, it seems that all of their problems stem from the Conectivity kit and the software. The connectivity kit omission is strange, to say the least, but I don't use the AppRadio app to connect my phone to the HU. I use the ARLiberator app, which basically gives you full control over the phone, rather than going through the limited number of Apps that Pioneer has approved. It also usually bypasses the parking brake requirement. Essentially, it puts your phone's screen in your dashboard, and lets you use the whole phone through it.

does the app radio allow for input from a pc, via the hdmi ? or any input for that matter. I'm a pc builder and would love the ability to tune the car without lugging a laptop around.

Technically, I'm sure it would work as the the display. The visual portion of it is just HDMI (normally over MHL or MicroHDMI). For input, though, you may still be stuck at using mouse/keyboard, since the touch is relayed over bluetooth through whatever app you use. Since a PC wouldn't do that, it may not work. That said, a bluetooth keyboard/mouse connected to the PC would certainly work. You would just need some way to switch input from the PC to your phone.

grrrr...I wish I could do the flip-out..I might have to...and just make sure it flips while in 2-4-R. I just like that it positions the screen a lil higher up. The dbl din is just to low to watch while driving...I mean while I'm parked... ;-P

I got a foldout and it flips when in park and have problem I just use the top slot but it fold out nice.. I just fold it down when I need at me heat or air

Those pictures tell me one thing.....I'm gonna be just a lil more broker...Thanks Babnaw.

I didn't really see anyone reply with firsthand m/t flipout experience. I had a pioneer flipout in my 97 m/t and it cleared while motoring out in every gear. It came with the car when I bought it. Yes it's a nicer to view since it's "above" the shifter, but it sucks when you try to use any of your a/c controls...it's actually impossible without closing the unit again. I'll be going with a double din screen with my current gsx when the time comes for that reason. I also thinks it looks a lot cleaner.

^ I have a flipout (Pioneer AVIC-N5) in my M/T GSX and would never go with a double din. The screen blocking the HVAC controls is minute, just drop or completely close the screen turn the HVAC knobs and angle or open the screen up again. Seeing as I've never had A/C and only drive the car when it's 70 degrees and above, I'm good.
