I've searched and while I found lots of threads where others are painting their tan interior plastics black, I cant find any where an interior piece is being painted tan.:banghead: I want to paint a black A-pillar gauge pod tan to match the interior on my GST (and possibly do touch-up on other pieces) and want to be sure to buy the correct color plastic paint. Has anyone actually done the color matching that can give me the brand and exact color used?

So I'm guessing that in 20 plus years, not one person has had to match anything to their tan interior? Come on guys, I would rather buy a can of paint than have to buy another pod in the tan color. Big difference in price, even if I resell the black one.

For some reason most people seem to hate the tan/black interior. I myself love it. Free thread bump and I'll keep my eyes open. Perhaps you can color match with dupont paints and report back with your own findings.

yeah i love the tan interior and im having hard time to find pieces that match my cars, i noly find black or gray, what could work is getting a white primer base and then spray the tan color,

it would look like shit if you dont use white or light base...

ahh and i think autozone has a duplicolor tan paint thats not too off from our color...

good luck and keep us posted i wanna see how it turns out

I have a tan 3 gauge pod A-pillar in mine (and yes, I'm part of the rare few that loves tan/black combo in this car, just looks amazing :) ). So worse case scenario you can definitely buy a tan one if you can't find the paint to match. Think I paid 60$ for it way back when.

Where did you buy it? I have been looking everywhere for one and still cannot find one that will fit, all I see are the tan truck A-pillar pieces.

I am keeping the buy another one option as a last resort, see previous posts. The only source I found for a tan pod was LoTek.

Yeah that's where I got mine (shipping to Canada is always surprisingly high :( ) I know it's last resort, but why not sell yours and use that money to buy the tan one? More people will buy the black one anyway so should be an easy sell.

That's all well and good, but buying the tan gauge pod only solves half my problem and costs more. I still need a way to touch up tan trim that has blemishes and I want to be able to paint replacement trim that is easier to find in black or gray. Additionally, if I do any custom interior pieces, like rear seat storage, I want it to match. Can someone answer my question instead of telling me to change my interior to black or live with it?

Here it is. Made by SEM. Its a flexible color coat. It works on ridgid plastics, carpet, vinyl&Velour. Part#15323 palomino and 15093 light buckskin. They are the closest to our tan. I will have to spray a test panel and see witch is best or even use both in thin layers to get the best color match.

Great! Progress at last. Let me know what you had to do to match when you get around to it. I'm not sure that using both would be the answer, but I'm guessing that if neither is an exact match that prepping the panel with a base coat of white (or some other neutral color) before using one of those colors might get it closer.
Where did you source your SEM paint? I'm hoping I can get it locally and not have to order if your testing works out.

Edit: Looks like our posts crossed! Which would you say was the closest? Do you have a tan piece laying around to set next to your test palette?

I was able to match the tan interior on my 1g with Rustoleum Fabric and Vinyl paint. Found it at my local Auto-Zone. I don`t have a part number for you. I went by the color of the cap. It was a great color match.

If you want the headache do some paint matching and more studying. But there's some pretty good info that was posted to help you out. I don't think it can go any further then this.
Actually, it looks like NWHTank has done the testing, I just cant tell from the posted pic which part of the panel is the best match. Unfortunately colors in pics in your browser are usually not "true" due to many factors like; type and level of lighting when pic was taken, auto-enhancement done to the pic, display drivers, display color palette, and the type and level of lighting you are viewing the pic. That is why I was asking that maybe an OEM tan trim be laid next to the test panel, because then you are looking apples and apples. Even with the colors of the pic not being "true", you can still detect a difference in relative shading.

Well overlapped looks like crap, I think but if seperated from another panel not bad.but if another product is available with a better match ,then its has to be found.

Tan 1G FTW!! I even have a spare grey interior that i choose not to use. Love the tan and how rare it is.

That sounds like a great idea. The previous owner put the transmission, transfer case and other parts inside the car. Maybe i could use that to clean it up!
