I was just wondering what security you guys have? (Apart from a bat or large dog) It rarely seems to get addressed. It sounds like car crime is increasing in the US and not many people seem to talk about it.

I had a hell of a time getting an aftermarket alarm fitted. The standard alarm just didn't want to let go of it's hold over the car but after 6hours in the snow a very p*ssed off tech finally got it working.

Now I sleep like a baby knowing If anyone tries to move the car I will know about it.

Riiiiight. Security is a myth. If someone want's your car they will get it. My 1969 Olds 442 had a $2000 clifford alarm system, with glass break, proximity, tilt and motion, hood, trunk, and electrical sensors. Some punk crawled under the front end and filled my speaker with expansion foam. Three days later my burned and stripped muscle car was found under a bridge in San Antonio. I have this thing called FULL COVERAGE. I take my camcorder, video log everything I own and insure it out the A$$.

I agree with you, If someone wants it they will take it. But having a decent alarm will reduce the chances.

Clifford is about the best you can get. I just wish I had gotten the pager system, It would have saved my car. (You get a little pager and if the alarm goes off it goes off.)

They also incorporate a turbo timer so that you don't have to wait by the car. i have a Clifford Concept 50. Makes me happier.

Yeah...but my 1969 H/O 442 was a balls to the wall, coffee can piston, dual mailbox sized hood scoops, and a 4 barrel carb. No turbo needed, so the turbo timer option wouldn't help me too much

Bottom line is if someone wants your stuff, you will be without stuff.

The easiest thing people do is a kill switch for the starter, it's cheap and effective at stopping people from stealing your car.

But think abotu how many times you have heard an alarm go off in a parking lot....did you rush over to see what was going on? Did anyone else? Bingo, that's the problem. People yank stereos and stuff out of cars while the alarms are going off because they know no one is going to come and get them. I guess the little pager thingy might be handy, but even then it ain't gonna save you most of the time.

Go see "Gone in 60 Seconds" (ok, movies don't equal reality, but still) and tell me how secure you think your car is. Even a kill switch only stops someone from driving your car away....if they plan on towing it, just kiss it bye-bye.

Also, it's damned annoying when you come home at 1:30 in the morning when I am trying to sleep and then you arm your 400dB alarm system with that lovely little "CHIRP". I have a neighbor that wakes me up with that crap 2 or 3 times a week. I almost want to steal his car just to show how !@#$ stupid it is to have it in the first place.
