As stated, remove your trunk center section. Be very careful removing the center section. It will break if you are not careful with it. There are 4 kind of stubborn plastic clips holding it on, as well as 2(IIRC) not as stubborn metal clips. 2 of the plastic clips are about 4 inches from the truck floor on each side. Use a large flat scraper or something similar to help pry the plastic toward the front of the car. Once the front side of the panel is free, there are two more plastic clips on the topside of the panel, one clip on the left and right sides. This part of the panel should be strong enough to allow you to pry them up with a screwdriver and not break. Just be careful when prying.
Next you have to remove both the left and right taillights.
After that there are six or seven 10mm nuts bolting the taillight section to the body. You must remove both side taillights brfore removing the center section though. remove all nuts, pull the center section out, undo the license plate light sockets, and the center section is free.

Sounds like a lot of work! Thanks for the info!
Do you think I could tint them if I left them on? I'm using vht nightshade and I was worrying about it dripping because it would be vertical if left on the car. I would rather skip all the extra work of taking it all off if I can but I will take it off if I have too.

Its cake and definitely not that hard. Its a 5 minute thing max. All you do is remove the plastic panels inside, unscrew a few measly bolts and pop the sucker out! Jeez you are making it sound like how to make Mega-LSD or something.

You can tint them with them still installed on the car. Just do a good job masking the rest of the car off.
It shouldn't be too hard to remove the center section. Just take your time. Maybe hop in the trunk and take a peek behind the panel to see what's holding it on.

I got mine done outbaxk of a grocery store in under 10 mins. Common sence man. The only tricky part is unplugging the bulbs without breaking a clip

Not trying to change your mind or anything, but what about instead of tint just painting it the same color as the car?
Yea the panels can be a little difficult the first time around, but after taking them off a few times you will be able to do it no problem. When you take them off then take a good look at the connectors and then the next time you might remember where the clips are so that you can pop them out easier. Take your time you will get it.

Ok since it's brought up how about some pics of the finished project from the OP. It would make threads like this more complete and worth reading for someone searching the subject. Any up dates? pics? Tips or what not to do's from eagle talon_97?
