im thinkning of changing my steering wheel to a 3g steering wheel
does anyone know if the power stering will still work and air bags on the new wheel and if it fits
thanx

The power steering shouldn't be affected, most wheel swaps only go on the driver's end of the column. I'd not hazard a guess about bags or cruise control or whatever else might be different about them. I have about as much faith in airbags as I do in the Space Shuttle.... and Morton-Thiokol are involved in both.

I like the look of the 3g eclipse steering wheel too. I was at the junkyard and I took at 3g steering wheel and put it on the spline of the 2g, its a direct fit. I don't care about the cruise control not working because I already removed it, but does anyone know if the airbag will/could work? I would imagine you would have to cut the harness of the 2g and splice a 3g harness on. Thoughts? Ideas?

Contrary to the comment by TurboSpyderGS_T, the 2G cars also have the cruise switch attached to the steering wheel, just like the 3G cars do. That button on the LH sidepod is just a master on-off, BOTH generation steering wheels have a lever attached to the wheel hub that controls the individual functions of accel/deccel/on/off. I consider the 2G steering wheel to be an ugly, oversized POS, so I ordered a 3G wheel off ebay for my '97 Spyder GS-T. Still waiting for it to be delivered 10 days later, but the plan is to mount a 2G cruise control lever to the equivalent pad on the 3G wheel (looks like both models use the same switch, BTW). I'll check the fit and function on the car, modifying the clockspring if necessary, and then order an airbag cover for $75 (not a live bag). I already have sent in paperwork to the Feds to permit me to legally deactivate either or both airbags. After that's done, the passenger's side bag will also be removed to make a nice top-hinged storage compartment. I've said for years that if I were ever to purchase a vehicle containing airbags, the POS would be removed posthaste. Don't trust 'em one bit- just one more inadequately-thought-through government-mandated boondoggle. Plus, my understanding is that if a 2G car's airbags go off, the cover on the passenger's side bag flies-up and breaks the windshield. Real intelligent design, eh? :notgood:

Federal paperwork for deactivation permission- it talks about installing on-off switches, but it can be used to authorize total deactivation as well, if the OEM manufacturer doesn't sell optional on-off switches.

How did you dig up this old post. BTW, interesting read that Defiant brought up in 2003.
Thiokol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Quote "discovered Thiokol's polymers made ideal rocket fuels" is funny yet scary. I'll bet during WW2, the gas mask sealants were made with this stuff. Nice to know that your gas mask sealant makes a good rocket fuel.
