Just curious if you guys know of any place that makes side skirt extensions for our cars. My friend has them on his Evo and they look like they are easy enough to make, the ones from an Evo might even fit. This might also be a good product for some sponsors to fashion up and make some money off of if there isn't anything out there.

Example of what I would like to find or have made...

I like the idea. I've discussed it with my son. I think 95-96 sideskirts would probably be better suited for the look. I first had seen them on a GTM supercar. They are supposed to keep airflow from going under the car. They would look grear with a front lip / splitter. Maybe a rear bumper version also to complete the look. I too was wondering how you could make them. Maybe fiberglass laid over a foam core? :thumb:

Yeah, they would definitely compliment a nice front lip which is why I was looking at getting something like this done. I have a front lip on my 95 GST and I need something to complete the look without having to get some gawdy aftermarket side skirts.

I think your approach would be the best way to do it. I have a spare set of 2ga sideskirts that I was gonna go ahead and use fab some up myself but I'm not all too confident in my fiberglass ability, although with the entire extension itself it shouldn't prove to be too difficult. A layer of carbon fiber would also be extremely easy to do on it too.

It would be cool if we could gain interest in various vendors to maybe get something like this going, you know?

Are you going to bond them directly to the side skirts or just bolt them on?

I personally like the bolt on look like the ones in your EVO pic.

I was thinking if you were to go the bolt on route, you could use the bottom side skirt bolts to attach it. I would use large fender washers to spread the load and longer bolts.

My 2Ga matched with a Cupra R front lip. Bad camera but you get the idea. Waiting on a good rear diffuser to finsh off the project.

((Pardon if my terminology is wrong, the concept is sound however.))

If I remember properly, the purpose of side skirts is not to keep air from going under it, but to keep the air that's going underneath the car to stay under the car. On Super cars and GT class cars, the underside is usually flat. The side skirts keep the air channeled to the back where the rear diffuser creates a vacuum, which results in down force on the bottom of the whole car.

The other method is they try to seal the space as much as they can, and leave the back to create a vacuum, pulling the car down.

Course, that's not to say it wouldn't help our cars. Personally, I think it would be neat if some one could make a aero package for our cars that was subtle. :) front diffuser, flat bottom, rear diffuser and we would have some impressive downforce. :)

If you think about it, one set of side skirt extensions would just about fit all OEM side skirts because don't they all use the same bolt holes underneath? Theoretically you would be able to swap it from side skirt to side skirt just like we're swapping a complete side skirt. Makes sense, right?

Well sort of. The problem is that 2Ga's and talons have a slight dip in the side skirt, while 2Gb's are more straight. They would fit but not perfectly.
