I did some research on this and I've found that there are two main ways to remove chrome:

1) Bead/Sand Blasting
2) Using Muriatic Acid (hydrochloric acid)

Which method is the most effective way of removing the chrome plating? Also, what's the procedure in using the chemical method?

The reason for this post is I have a set of chrome rims that are pitting/chipping and I want to paint them. Plus, I hate chrome..

i would think takeing them to a shop and haveing them bead blasted would be the cheapest and easiest.

I heard bead/sandblasting is not very effective in removing chrome plating since the chrome material is harder than the aluminum. Does anyone have any experience with using chemicals to remove chrome plating?

Sand blasting it is all ways going to be better because if you leave it in the acid to long it can eat through the medal and weaken parts or even leave pits in the medal.
