ok so the car is a 92 eclipse gs. 4g63 engine 5 speed trans fwd. I need everyones opinion on whether i should return it to factory specs in every way possible, or if i should mod it. I have to rebuild the top end anyways due to bent valves. so lets get some ideas flowing guys

keep in mind i have another car that is going to be fully modded and i plan on getting some for of turbo awd eventually that i will no doubt mod into a 10 sec car at least. right now i just want a good running car for a DD so my gf will quit complaining about sharing the focus. thanks for ## opinion though.

I would just do the normal bolt-ons (like I/H/E). It wouldnt hurt to have your new head ported and polished. I have done this to my head and noticed a difference. Not that it was a big difference but there was one nonetheless.

Save your money and invest it in the other car that you stated you will be heavily modding. Keep the '92 Eclipse GS stock so it can be your reliable daily driver. You will be glad you have a working car when you start modding the other car and need to drive to the shop to pick up parts. You have bent valves? Did you find out what caused that? You stated you have a 4G63 engine in a GS? Did you do an engine swap or are you sure you don't have a GST? Eclipse RS and GS have the 420a engine in them.

I dont see any benifit in doing so other than you can say that it is stock, then stock systems are often restrictive and if you already have it apart than you can so the little things Ex. performance timing belt, port and polished, less restrictive intake you can do things that still appear stock, my theory on these type of things is, just because it works doesn't mean its right, theres always a little room for improvement

well im just going off of the sticker on the firewall. and the rear bumper and title say gs. yeah i really want to make it a daily driver. I did a little research on here and the only 420a engines i could find stock came n 2gs

I do believe he has a 1G GS, which came with the 1.8 or the 2.0. So he is right by saying he has a 4g63. My 1ga has a 4g63 in it.

As for the OP, you can just return it to stock that way you have a somewhat reliable DD since you already have a big project in the mix. Other than the mods that have been givin to ya there isnt really much more to do to a N/T 4g63. If money is an issue I would just return your GS to stock and use the rest of your money for your other projects.

Obviously its a 4G63 if he has a 93 Talon. I would definitly do a port and polish at the very least. You have it apart or will have it apart so you might as well. What caused the belt valves? ANd you better make sure you get a new timing belt. That is a must.

the timing belt, spark plugs, oil, and every other fluid were changed and then it "jumped" time while he was driving it from the shop to his house. so would i still need to change the timing belt? it looks like its in excellent condition. by the way this is a 92 eclipse the 93 talon is my project

Just to be on the safe side I would get a new timing belt. Its better to be safe then sorry IMO. The timing belt that was on there might have been a little bit too long, which might have caused it to jump timing. Before I got my 1g my buddy was gettin a new timing belt for it and went through three of them because of them being just a bit too long.
