just looking for advice for a product to help remove swirls and recondition paint. the paint is red if that matters.

3M makes a swirl removal product that isnt as agressive as a polishing compound would be. U could use a medium polishing compound and a grey buff pad at 1200rpm. That would revamp any paint problems you might have.

thanks man. with a 14 year old you are gonna have problems with paint. again thank you.

The only issue I see with the suggestion above, 14 year old clear might not want to be buffed. Buffing IS AN ART one mistake and you burn the clear right off. :banghead: then your screwed unless you can chemical blend it baack to somewhat normal. I would personally invest in a light foam buffing wheel and some VERY light buffing compound. The swirl remover is generally not used with paint this old depending on what the clear looks like. Even the light stuff is really abrasive to the clear. . Run the buffer at low speed working from top to bottom of the car. BE VERY CAREFUL TO KEEP THE BUFFER MOVING<------- IMPORTANT DO NOT STOP THAT BUFFER ON THE PAINT. Apply the chemical to the wheel to "season" it do not put the compound directly on the paint EVER, CLEAN the whole car BEFORE you try to buff it. If you get to a bad area you can pull out some wet 2000 or 2500 grit paper and hit it. Then hit it with the buffer. IF the clear is peeling or has bubbles DONT BUFF IT. It will rip the clear and paint right off. :thumb: I hope this helps you. They dont charge over a hundred bucks to buff out a car because its easy. It takes YEARS to get good at it. The key is to keep the buffer moving @ an even speed on the surface, 2 fast and it burns the clear, too slow and it scratches the crap out of the paint. What are you going to use as a buffer ? I ONLY use a variable speed angle grinder/buffer. The cheap ones you can buy that are like a D_A SUCK A FAT ONE. They dont work @ all for buffing. You dont want a random orbit for buffing you will end up standing back and  .

so basically you are saying it would be better to pay a detail shop to buff if i havent to much experience in that field?

.....:thumb: thats A BIG 10-4, If they screw it up its on them, if you screw it up its on you. For what your going to pay for a good buffer the wheel and chemicals, Unless your going to do a bunch to make extra money like I do from time to time its not worth investing in the stuff. Take it to the guys who do it all day every day. If you lived close to me I would buff it for you. If you want ask the guys in the shop to let you watch how they do it. Tip them before they start. ;) ;) you will be happy in the end.
