Ok so I'm going to get an alarm put on my Tsi. I've been looking at the auto page 425 and it's only 100 bucks on ebay. This guy that sells electronics in provo has the 420 for the same price. I'm not sure if it matters but I want a good alarm system that isn't going to need replacing anytime soon.
Please share with me your choices...
Thanks in advanced

Is the car garaged? If not, get a 2 way alarm. I have a Viper 5002 with a digital tilt sensor, battery backup, internal siren and a piezo. Are you installing it or taking it to a shop?

Viper FTW can get it cheap on amazon. I'll be picking one up in a few months once I get my car and everything else taken care of.

It will be taken to a shop to be installed and yes the car is garaged. I don't want a remote start because that will really only be used in the winter.(When This car won't be driven)

I have a viper on my dd esi and it's done good till now....It has been on for quite a while so I don't blame the brand at all. Sometimes things just run out..

i have a viper on mine right now and i love it
VIPER FTW!

Not sure, it was on the car when i got it. It's just a basic one with lock and unlock buttons, panic button, and an aux button that rolls down my windows. No problems so far and have had the car over 2 years, no idea how long its been on the car

Humm...I'm gonna go check some stores out tomorrow and this installer guy in the city next to me see what he can offer me.
Thanks for all the replies ppls
Keep em comin

I've been installing alarms for a few years now. For best performing Alarm, Viper all the way. Especially with an internal alarm. You don't even need an external siren with one of them suckers... Honestly mine could bust your ear drums if your inside the car when its going off. haha. DEI also have a very nice dual siren that is loud and plays two different alarms at the same time, Its very f'n annoying. I also personally setup mine into a relay into one of the stock horns, so not only do I have the internal siren, the dual external siren, I also have the stock horn beeping. The problems with alarms, is when they are going off, nobody really gives a damn to do anything about it, like notifying someone in the area.

For a cheaper version of the Viper, go with the Hornet. I honestly like the Hornets remote better, however there is a reaction time issue that bugs me involving the Hornet. I had the Hornet 2 way remote start system in my Accord, loved it, but when I installed the viper 2 way pager remote start system in my Talon, I was shocked on how much nicer it was.

they both also give alot of spare channels to program into the remote. So you can hookup extra functions for the alarms, such as a trunk/hatch popper, hood popper, Fuel door popper, hell even door poppers. Proper setup you can have it open your sunroof, windows.

Also be careful who you have install your alarm. I would never do anything like this, but an old friend of mine (until I found this out) some how got the hookup on a lot of nice stuff, including an Eclipse In Dash DVD system and subs and all sorts of stuff. He programmed a spare remote to a customers vehicle so he could deactivate the alarm, and stole all his shit. One thing I hate more than anything, is thieves.

Whoa damn!
Geez I didn't think people would do that be thats pretty F****d up.
This guy that i'm going to be taking it to has been doing my brother's alarms for about 5 years now and nothing of ours has gone missing. I'm sure if he was going to jack me he would have just stole my brothers system because I don't have anything but a cd player and stock speakers in mine LOL
But from everything i've heard I think viper is the way to go. Hornet I have checked out and they didn't seem all too bad but hey I just got a little bonus from my work and decided to buy something for my new car. So why not get something good?
So since you install alarms how much would you charge for a basic viper alarm and key less entry?

Ok so I went down to provo today and talked to the installer guy
He said for what I want an alarm for it doesn't really matter the brand because they make good cheap alarm systems. That being said it goes back to the fact that I don't want a crappy alarm system that will break. So I told him about this one...NEW RF-425 LCD AUTOPAGE CAR ALARM SECURITY SYSTEM 2-WAY - eBay (item 110371952350 end time Aug-29-09 23:48:45 PDT)

It's a good price and he said he'd install it for 100 bucks which isn't bad.
Autopage has had good alarm systems and he said he's actually sent back viper's more than any other alarm system he's sold in the last 10 years.
So please shine your opionion on this auto page alarm
thanks

Anything made by DEI (Viper, Clifford, etc) or Compustar.

The rest is garbage.

Do you have any proof to prove this claim?
Just because you like a brand over another doesn't make the more affordable one crap.
I'm not trying to say you don't know your stuff but I'd like some kind of back up to a claim like that.

Lack of support and opinions on the little no name companies. Less range, not as many features, harder to get add on parts, etc.

I've got on Omega alarm on my Talon and I hate it. Range is horrible.

Most certified shops will sell DEI stuff.

Here's some reading material about alarms and car security. Sure they are from Honda sites but the point is the same, protecting your ride.

I'm a little bit on the serious side when it comes to car security.

You make a good point about the seriousness of getting a good alarm.
Here's the back side to all this though..I don't daily drive my Tsi actually, I rarely drive it on the weekends.
It's always garaged.
I just wanted something to be a little more convenient and inexpensive.
Hence why I was looking at an auto page.
But I do appreciate your feedback on the subject.
If anyone else has a good opinion let me know.

Which viper do you have

I have a Viper 5002, comes with 2 remotes instead of 1. Most people go with the 2 way Viper 791XV .

You can look here to try to figure out which model you want since they list everything on one page - Viper Car Alarms, Remote Car Starters and Keyless Entry Systems 2009 Models

Since your vehicle is garaged, I would suggest the 1002 alarm. The remotes are heavy duty and covers won't crack easily like the 2 way remotes on the 5000/791xv. Here is a link 1002 - Viper 1002 Car Alarm System

You can get the 1002 for $109 shipped from Amazon. Amazon.com: Viper 1002 Car Alarm Security System: Electronics

i have a Viper, its prettynice

i installed it, i dont trust car audioshops anymore, the last car i had they wired it all with but splices :/ JUNK!!!

i soldered everything in this alarm, much better!

I agree with all of the suggestions here for a 2-way alarm, I currently have one on my car and it does the trick, but any alarm can be defeated by a professional thief in a short time, especially with the domestic indifference to hearing an alarm go off. I've opted for a little more security for my prized DSM, I recently purchased a Car Lock from McGard, now I can park my car anywhere for any amount of time and rest assured that my ride will still be there when I get back to it.

Yeah, it'd take the thieves more time, but um, you could just unbolt the wheel and slap on a spare with that lock..

I'm looking at getting a 2way alarm installed too on my 09 civic Si though. Probably going to go with compustar.

Thats what wheel locks are for! :thumb: Of course there's a way to beat those too, but somebody can always find a way to get around something - somehow.
