Tested it in my other car and it sounded good... I end up putting some insulator inside it for deeper bass. Not as good as my 2 old school kicker solo, but good enough bass for a clean sound all around. the fiberglass box it's a lot bigger than it looks. Thanks.

It looks good, just make sure you tell passengers not to accidently kick it

I wouldn't have to worry about passengers cause it's not my everyday car. I have my beater toyota as one. Also if you look at were the carpet lining goes, it's plenty enough space for the foot.

That is a true definition of form over function. Looks sweet, but there is no way it can sound that good, box is not big enough, and the way the bass bounces around your feet is not ideal, love it none the less.

It may very well be large enough, have you seen some of the box specs on new subs? My new Alpine Type R required only .5-.8cuft for a 10" sub & this is only an 8". Also bass isn't like the higher frequencies, where direction & deflections can be a big issue.

Looks good :thumb: I'm in the process of fiberglassing my new tiny enclosure as well :hellyeah:

Thanks DAREN P... People always think that you need a big box to make it sound good... That's not always thecases... I would say a big box if it was vented or ported, but a lot sealed boxes are small for tight fit. Like my 2 old school 10" solobarics. they are only .6 cu. ft. per chamber with 50% insulator. I'll tell you damn it sounds good. Hey post pics when make yours.

yeahhh... looking to get a grill for it so that it'll blend in and not show as much.

Looks great, the subs of today require less space than yesteryears subs. They also have shallow mount subs. A 8" sealed doesn't require much volume at all. I like it.:thumb:

Ya, the last fiberglass box I made (was my first one, pics in my gallery) was for a single 12 & it required 1.25cuft. The new sub has an ideal volume of .6 net & if my calculations are correct, I should be right on that target

This time I'm just making more like a universal enclosure, so its easy to remove when going to the track, etc. I based the design on the pic below but had to change a couple things with my low strut tower bar. Also placed the sub so it fires more towards the rear of the car instead of right at the trunk divider/rear hatch window like this enclose would have. Figured that was just asking for rattles in our application, placed like this pic.

I'll post up some pics when mines complete. Think I'm going to finish it like the one in the pic this time as well, carpet on the sides & body colour on the top (last time whole thing was finished in paint)

You are all wrong, my original JL W0 10" required .75 cub ft the new version needs .65 cub ft, oh wow that is so much less, that is more than a decades difference between models. An 8" sub probably needs about .4 cub ft which means there is still no room for a box that big in the kick panel unless it sticks out really far. Second bass does bounce around you just don't know what you are talking about. Please know what you are talking about before you post.

If this un-tactful post is directed towards me Mr audio expert, I will reply, if not disregard my response.

Actually one of my other hobbies happens to be home audio & I believe I have a fairly descent knowledge on the subject (sure like everything, there's always someone who knows more). My response on enclosure volume was in general sub enclosure requirements have gotten smaller & smaller over the years. Because your one JL entry level subs enclosure specs haven't changed a huge amount (though they still did decrease around 13%) over the last decade, is hardly concrete evidence that no one else knows what their talking about. Check out some higher end subs sometime & see how their box requirements compare to what they did a decade ago.

Sure .4-.5 cuft is probably ideal for his sub & his enclosure may very well be on the small side but there are ways to make up for some of this lost volume. I did not state bass doesn't "bounce around" , if you re-read my post I stated with low frequencies direction & deflections isn't as big of an issue as it is with higher frequencies. Lower frequencies are much less directional vs higher frequencies. Also, no where did I see the OP say he was trying to build a SQ or SPL setup where specific box specs are much more important or that he was trying to get the maximum effiency from his amplifier/subwoofer combo.

I totaly agree with you, the whole mobile audio/video world has came along way in the last 5 years, not to mention 10-15 years ago. I like the sub enclosure you got and plan to build. I agree, it would be best facing the rear. Be sure to post pictures when you get done.

Havent posted in awhile BUT is that only one kick Panel? It looks good by the way, just wondering if theres a possibility of doing a driver side one also. But yea man :hellyeah:

I had in mind of doing both side with subs, but it would totally kill the rest foot on the driver side. So I decided to go with just an 8" on the passenger side. Maybe if I had went with 2 6.5 sub than yeahhh... cause kicker cvt, jl, and other had them in 6.5 inches. Thanks.
