Hey guys,
i don't know much about carbon fiber hoods so i have some questions.

Does it make a significant weight reduction?
Is it safe in a car crash?
Are they worth the money?

Thanks!!
:dsm:

are hood pins a necessity with a carbon fiber hood? i've only seen cars around here with c/f hoods and hoodpins, so i'm rather unsure. and i'm going to need a new hood soon, little accident...

My view, I would say "YES"...cause when you're flying down a road, your CF-hood is so light, that the wind will yank it right off...Hood pins are used to secure the lightweight hood...just my $0.02...

i got a CF hood on my 95 and the only prob was lining it up correctly, other then that the hood was fine but i would recommend getting hood pins as well.

actually the main reason for the pins is you don't want to be slamming the (far more brittle than steel) CF hood down on the stock latch and bust a hole through it.

I have a VIS Carbon Fiber hood on my Talon and I go 100+ with it once in awhile on the freeway and it shakes a little but not nearly enough to scare me. I do plan on getting hood pins for the look and just in case. Although winter is over here and there isn't much wind you would need them a lot more if ya live somewhere that has tornados LOL.

Vis is the only brand You can trust! Believe Me i went through 2 no name brand hood cuz they are trash. These hoods came with strippedhole to bolt them on and No Sun protection so the hood got ####ed up after 4 months. I have Vis Now and will not put anything else on. :thumb:

I also have a VIS. DO NOT.....I REPAET DO NOT BUY A CHEAP KNOCK OFF!!!!!! You will regret it. The VIS I have fit ablsolutly perfect. take a look in my gallery. I didn't have to adjust a thing. The latching assy in MY OPINION is as good if not better than stock. This hood has been down the track numerouse times over 100+ mph and I also had to drive w/o a front bumper. I do NOT have hood pins. I am not saying you do not need them, you can do what you like. But i will not be installing them.

On the other hand I DID NEED them on my cheap knock off, the one that had crazy gaps and was brittle and cheap thin fiberglass latch assy.

You wuill make the choice. but this is deffinatly a case WHERE YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

i have never ever heard of a vis hood flying up at all, thats why i wana get one, cause i dont want hood pins, look at Dundees old car, a car landed on top of his VIS hood, totaled the car, the hood didint even have a damn scrach on it, not bent or anything......
