I want to put an aftermarket head unit in a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I have a few questions regarding this vehicles wiring. The OEM stereo has a separate cassette/tuner and CD player in two different DIN sized chasis. The CD player is mounted on top of the cassette/tuner.

Question: The CD player has one DIN cable that plugs into the cassette/tuner. I assume this passes control and audio signals. There is
also a Din Connector plug on back of the CD player that runs somewhere else in the vehicle. What is this for? Possibly for a CD changer option?

Also, the Cassette/Tuner has one DIN plug that accepts the feed from the CD player. It also has a second Din plug that runs elsewhere in the vehicle. What is this? What does it do? My thoughts are a feed for external amplifiers. But, I don't know if this car has external amps. My guess is that it does since the cassette/tuner is small and does not have a lot of heat sinking.

I purchased a factory radio to aftermarket radio adapter harness. If the car does not have external amps then I should be all set. However, if it does then what do I do? The Aftermarket radio has 4 speaker outputs and two sets of line outputs.

Do most factory equipt amps accept speaker level inputs or will I have to
feed them linie level inputs?

Where do I connect the speakers if the car has built in amps?

Anyone help?

There is a factory amp under the passenger seat. Putting an aftermarket head unit in there and then getting everything to work correctly is going to be a royal pain. I am gioing through the same thing right now. Here's a link to a thread I started about this a few days ago.

Just as a side note, there are a few other threads that have been started about this both here and on DSMTalk.com.
