ok so here i got about talking about lowering my car, i plan on gettin lowering spring now instead of coil-overs, hopefully some one will know the answers to my questions, 1) After what amount of lowering will i need to buy a camber kit, i plan on lowering it 1.5", 2) if i lower it 1.5" will i need new shocks and struts? 3) what is a good non exspensive set of lowering springs, ive been looking at Tenzo R and Megan Racing(and i dont care about the bounce).....any help would be much appreciated

Thanks in Advance........Jon B

If you want my honest opinion, go with coilovers. Itll give you the EXACT drop you want, you wont have to worry about blowing your struts (since coilovers replace everything and are meant to take the abuse of a low car) and you wont have a really bumpy harsh ride. I have Tein Basic Coilovers and I LOVE THEM. Had them on my GS when I had it, and since they were so nice, I bought them again for my GSX. Everyone I know who got springs wished they got coilovers first.

Just my .02

My buddy dropped his 3inches and with out the coilovers he has gone through about 3 sets of tires now and the thing rides like crap LOL.

He learned the hard way and is redoing his suspension now.

I got lowering springs, Eibach springs..
on tokico struts.. it handles better, but rides like shit. Personally, I'd spent the extra cash and get coil-overs. Atleast you'll save money in the long run. You'll get less bounce with the coil overs, plus the bounce abuses the shit outta springs, I'd go with coil-overs. just my opinion.

Your friend goes through tires because he needs a camber kit to readjust the camber of the car.

yea, the camber is probably way off and wearing on one portion of the tire real fast.

Also I 2nd the motion to go with coilovers!

Give megan Racing coilovers look over and see what you think. Great price, function great, and people here seem to love them .

yea those coil-overs are really nice but im only 18 and work maybe 3 days a week and have to pay the payments on my car along wiht insurance, so i cant be dissin out $900+ for full coil-overs :(

i would highly advise no matter which you go with that you at least get the front camber kit from a company. but i have in the past when i was in highschool and poor to used for the rear, a bolt that was 1/2" longer then the stock one and 1/2" of washers and had the people at the alignment place add/remove washers to adjust the degree for the 2" drop,

Camber kits are mostly an aesthetic mod. They are not necessary to preserve tire life. Just get an alignment after you get your car lowered and you'll be fine.

This is coming from a guy who's last 3 cars have been lowered between 2.5 and 4 inches without camber kits (non-dsm) and has had ZERO problems with tire wear. Get your toe fixed and you'll be fine.

I beg to differ. Imagine a the two front tires riding on negative camber. You think that the whole tire is going to wear evenly? I don't think so unless you live in an area where it forces you to turn left and right all the time.

Now you might not get a deal like you did for your exhaust ;) LOL but I would check out the dropzone coilover kit that's what I picked up for like 300 shipped to my door off ebay. that or they have the KSports coilover group buy going on for like $700. Not cheap but def a better option than springs.

do u have experience with the dropzones?

I actually have Dropzone on my car. Not coilovers, just regular struts and springs. I've had them on for about 2 years now and it still rides great. Mind you I have polyurethane suspension bushings which makes it ride a bit harder, but still nice.

It was a claimed 2 inch drop and I never really knew just how much it dropped it, but I recently had my car aligned due to an upper control arm nearly snapping in two on me and had to get a new camber on the drivers side. I thought I had Ingalls originally but I had SPC. I put an Ingalls in place of it and realized they were different. The one I ordered was 1.5 to 3.0 so the older one was probably -1.5 to 1.5. My passenger side can't be aligned to factory specs because the camber won't allow it which pretty much tells me my car is probably below 1.5 inches.

I only read a few of the posts in your topic, but I agree with some of the guys that you should NOT use that coilover and spring kit. They are cheapos. Like I said, I got Dropzone myself and this is what they looked like when they arrived.

I honestly don't know why everyone prefers coilovers over regular lowering springs. I see no reason to ever adjust the height considering it's just a DD.

There is no difference between out kits except you don't have thew ability to adjust and the reason I wanted that is because if say later down the line you want to sell the car I can raise it to close to the stock ride height and be ok. Not to mention I have a strip and street wheel set for the front so I need to be able to adjust. Other than that we have the EXACT SAME shocks/struts. The coilovers are not cheapos trust me. I understand the doubt as I know the skinny on most ebay coilovers so I have yet to defend these performance wise just by how they're made and how they look which means nothing I know in the long run. Like I said work in progress.

Coilovers are the better way to go, but it hink in his situation a set of springs would be a better idea. Megan springs are only $100

Yeah he knows that...But when he bought the cheap ebay lowering springs they came with no instructions and with no experience in lowering he put them on upside down and now they're practically shredded haha

damn look at all these posts LOL... ya i got a camber kit now on the rear and if your only gonna drop your car 1.5 inches you probably wont need a camber kit.... usually you start using camber kits around 2+ inches of drop... i perfer (LOL sp) coil overs over springs, all though you might lose some ride quality when using coilovers, you can adjust your ride height, and that is a big advantage to me :).....

Maybe someone should tell him to buy a camber kit.

Who makes a good camber kit for our cars that's not crazy expensive??

SPC eccentric bushings. I got my set for $60. Jtoby was always a big fan of them and claimed them to be the best we can get as far as price, function and of course eliminating the possibility of the upper a-arm hitting the inside of the fender/body. The Ingalls and adjustable balljoint type kits have that potential of mechanical interference.
