How do you get rid of the amber reflector material in the 97 headlights? I know i've seen a tutorial around here somewhere.

OK OK I have the remedy. I did this mod this past summer and it turned out really well. All you have to do is out the entire headlight assemblies in the oven ( minus bulbs ) around 200 degrees and keep your eyes on them. I say no longer than 5 minutes. Keep checking on them to make sure that they are okay. Then you pry them apart. You DO NOT I repeat DO NOT have to "scrape" the amber off. The is actually an amber lense that you unscrew. Only two small screws. Then you clean the assembly as necessary and seal them up with the a good silicone sealant. Thats all there is to it. you can do it on a few hours if you are rolling along. Hope this helps.

I did this mod two nights ago. I took the lights out which was the hard part. Put them in the oven at 300 deg at 5 to 7 min. split the lights apart and the amber reflector is screwed in. i removed the amber reflector and the silver around the light. I painted the silver part red to match my car and put it back. It was a cool mod.

The 97-99 is the same as the 95-96. Remove all those little clips, put the headlight in the oven(minus the bulbs) at 200-250, whatever you feel safer with, let it sit in there for 3-5 minutes. Watch it like a hawk, they will melt. Pull it out of the oven, pry it apart. You may want a knife or razor blade on hand to cut the sealent when your prying. After they are apart, let cool, do any painting that needs done, and if you want, you can remove the amber lens by removing the two srews that holds it in( I recomend thisOriginally posted by solreclipsegurl
on the newer models 97-99.. it takes more then just the metal clips to pull em apart.. .. how do u do this without breaking the lenses? do u put them in the oven and then pry the silicon apart? just wanna make sure before i do it..
