spyder top stops

Okay so I was wanting to buy a spyder and found one in real nice shape. But the owner says that when you hit the top bottom that It will move but only about a foot or so. He says it just stops after a certain point. He said that it is the pins in the motors. I was wondering if could be from that or if it could be from the frame being bent or something else.

Mine would stick about half way up and it was because one of the large links was broken and causing one side to go up faster than the other and jam. There also is a couple of smaller links that can get bent causing top to jam. There is a switch in side the trunk on the drivers side behind the plastic panel. If you turn it to off you can pull the top up and down manually. That's what I did till I found a top assembly.

It could be the motor pins, but usually only one goes at a time. Do a search. There are some write-ups on replacing those pins.

My top has been making a popping sound going up unless I help it up for a while so I decided to check out the motor pin from the side making the noise. I got the motor apart and was thinking before I punch out the pin which looks fine as it is, when the pin starts to fail does it usually cause a popping sound when the top goes up? If not then I guess the motor is fine and maybe the gear on the outside of the motor is slipping on the gear connected to the tops frame. Can someone clue me in? Thanks.
