I'm planning right now on how to make new headlights for my 1ga. I eliminated the pop-ups and welded the lids to the hood already, and want to install new headlights in the spot where the old ones shined through(in the clear lens). I plan on cutting out the lens but leaving the frame around it, giving me roughly 3"-4" of height to play with(i believe, i don't have the lens in front of me). With this accomplished, i actually have a platform to mount new headlights(don't know what kind, either rectangles off a older grand prix, or custom individual projectors. My problem is this. What kind of support can i make that will allow me to still adjust the headlights. I don't want to epoxy the lights in place, incase i need to adjust them ever. Also, i'll make a PVC(plastic) outside cover to this, should the cover be clear and cover the headlights, or should i make it flush with the lights so there is less distortion due to light traveling through 2 panes of clear plastic? Sorry, this is all alot of information, i'll be checking this post a lot, so post any questions you need.

I know about the legality issues. My headlights will be of the proper height, and be DOT approved lights. Sure they won't be factory installed, but this is the main issue i want to be able to adjust them and aim them properly, so they look and act factory(just how i like it). I want people to think these are factory lights, and the car never came with pop-ups until i pop the hood and they see an opening where they use to be.

Just use a bolt and 2 nuts (1 nut on either side of a mounting tab) on all four corners of the housing/fixture/light so that you can adjust it in a full range. Use aluminum or thick steel to make brackets. Since you have a welder, this shouldn't be a big deal :thumb:

The pontiac grand prix lights sound like a good option to me if they fit ok.

This would work if there was any metal in those lens, but there isn't metal around there, its all plastic. I could make a plastic mounting bracket(1/8" -1/4"), and epoxy that to the lens structure, then use ## method to aim them, i like that(never thought of it that way at all).

has anyone every measured pop ups on other cars that they make the headlight kits for to see if one was the same as our car?

yea, that's a very basic but effective way of doing things LOL

are these the lights you're going/thinking of using?
