I've seen a car at a junk yard that had the front licenes plate made at a vinyl shop out of reflective material. It looked so real from even 5 feet away. It was on the angled part above the fishmouth. It actually looked really good. Probably not legal, but I doubt a cop would ever even notice. You don't have to drill any holes, and you could just peel it off when it's time for a new one.
It seems very beneficial.

Has any body here ever done this?

Does anybody know how much it would cost.

Well it wouldnt be to expensive but when you got pulled over and the cop went to get the numbers off your plate and saw it was a fake then you screwed.

This is the dumbest idea/post Ive ever read

What is the point of this? You want to put fake plates on your car? or were you planning on keeping the same numbers? Plus if what you are planning on doing is illegal there aren't many shops that will do it.

What he's saying is that you would leave the back plate real, and then put this vinyl fake on the front so you wouldnt have to drill holes in your bumper but at the same time you wouldnt get hassled for not having a front plate... I would rather get the ticket than put a vinyl on my car.. still looks silly with a front plate even if it's not real.

I see the concept, it's much akin to the Japanese backlit plates, as in the link below.

I know in Utah, these plates are questionable, but are not infringing any laws or statutes. As of late, I've also seen several people "folding" their plates, that is, either cutting off or folding the top and bottom portion behind the numbers, so only the numbers are visible [according to a local officer, the numbers are all that need to be visible from the front plate if a rear plate with matching numbers is provided]. I'm lead to believe this is an older practice from the early '90s when Hondas and the JDM Spo-Com scene started taking off.

But to get back on the topic, I've also seen vinyl plate lettering on the nose of a few cars here, but they've had out-of-state plates [seen 1 Missouri, 2 California, and 1 Texas; all on the local military base]. I think it's a nifty idea, and hasn't been played out at all, so still has room to grow.
