So I was planning shaving a spare valve cover I picked up, and noticed this today.

It's missing a couple of the little covers that are attached to the baffle. I have no idea what these do or what they are called. I seached for stuff related to the baffle and only had one thread and somebody sugested that it be welded back on, but I don't have them.

So is this cover still usable or is it trash? This sucks because I've spent a good time already shaving the damn thing.

I think somebody else asked a similar question a while back. When it came down to it the valve cover was pretty much trash. I believe the baffles are there to keep the oil from "sloshing" around and keep a steady amount of oil evenly spread throughout the head.

Do you mean the fingers spreading out from the center? They're to help splashed oil drain back onto the cam lobes. Better to have them. I doubt it'd be a disaster to lose them.

I had a valve cover bofore that had the whole piece very loose, causing to actually lean on the cams, somehow it didn't cause any damage or hit any other moving parts, but actually the oil wasn't been "splashed" evenly across the head... at first it didn't made much sense to me as to why this was happening, but when I replaced the valve cover and removed after a full warm-up you could actually see the difference. Point beeing... don't use that and get a good one instead.!
