Alright guys, I just finished my eclipse conversion on my talon and the problem is I have no brake lights. I already did a couple searches, it seems this is a common problem, but I didn't get the info I needed. I found a very helpful tech article about how to make your own harnesses and all to get the OEM eclipse tail light effect on a talon, but I don't want that nor do I have the time to do it all. Instead I did what I'll explain below. Please help out if you can.

First of all I cut and extended the reverse power wire and spliced into the ground wire for my reverse lights. Next I took all the wires, bulbs, and harnesses from inside my talon tail lights and plugged them all into where they fit inside the eclipse tail lights hoping to escape the infamous no-brake-light-problem people have with this conversion.

My results were: When headlights are OFF, I have reverse, blinkers in inner bulbs, and a break light in the outter bulb on the RIGHT tail light ONLY. When headlights are ON, I have reverse, blinkers in the inner bulbs, markers in the outter bulbs, and nothing when I hit the brakes.

So, my right side is lighting the marker light when I hit the brakes, but you can't tell at night when I have the headlights on. And the middle bulbs, which I assume are supposed to be my brake lights, never come on.

What is going on and what do I do to fis them???

Please help me out, thanks!
Chris

when converting from talon to eclipse..you could have left everything as it is..and reused your stock talon harness ..

i changed my eurolights (its a talon harness for those who dont know) to us tails, i left the harness istead of hacking it..

the turnsignal is outer, brake and park lights on the middle and inner parts of the tail.. easy.

so you did leave everything as is? ?? check the bulbs agin, maybe you put one in wrong, bent tabs etc.

yes that's correct. I took the harness and 4 bulbs out of my talon lights. one of which is the reverse light, and I cut the wire to extend it to the bumper for the new eclipse reverse lights.

the other three I put in the eclipse lights in place of the wires and bulbs that they came with. as far as I can understand, they should work exactly the same as they did a couple days ago in my talon lights, right? I am using the same harnesses, same wires, same bulbs... the car can't tell if they're sitting inside a talon or eclipse tail light so how did something change?

the only wires I hacked were the red and black going to my reverse lights. for the red, I cut it and extended it. for the black, I cut it and added an extension to it but it still goes to the harness, I made like a three-way intersection of wires.

I hope that helps clarify.

UHG....... I redid it all and soldered all my wire connections. picture this, take the talon tail light. unscrew the harness so you can pull the wires out more. take the red and black wires going to the reverse bulb and cut them. then remove the remaining three bulbs. now take two sections of wire about 12 inches long, solder one set of ends to the eclipse reverse light and solder the other ends to the red and black wires you cut from inside the talon lights. set all these wires and bulbs aside for now. grab the eclipse tail light and take all of it's wires and bulbs out and replace them with the ones from the talon tail light you just set aside. screw the harness down to the tail light and plug it back into the car. you would think the car acts exactly the same right?... since you're using the exact same wires and bulbs as you were before, just in a new tail light housing and with relocated reverse lights. wrong. for some reason even though i did exactly as stated above, i now have no brake lights.

EDIT: can anyone please help me out?? I tried using the eclipse wires and plugging it into my car's harness while splicing into the wires for the reverse. I then tried using all the talon wires instead. Now I've redone it all so it's exactly as I said above and they still don't work right! ANYONE who has done this before or who can offer some advice or help in some way please speak up. Thank you and hopefully this mystery can be solved soon.
