i got a question for you guys (anyone actually)...what if you get into an accident, and you dont have the reinforcement bar in front or rear. you rear end someone's huge pickup truck and some family minivan comes hard into the back of you also. are you screwed, or will the car's body help enough not to kill you or total your car? i have wondered this, cuz a lot of people get into accidents, i just dont know how the guys with body kits and removed re-bars handle a hard accident.

If you remove the reiforcment bars you are screwed if you get into an accident. Your car will most likely be totaled. They are there to reiforce and take the brunt of the hit, if they are gone I would imagine your car will just crumble up easier.

Personally I don't feel that the weight reduction of removing them is worth the chance you take by removing them.

arent those reinforcement made to only handle 5mph crashes?
If It's a big crash like 30mph, I really dont see them helping much, you are screwed no matter what.

Yeah they are made to take 5 mph hits but that will also help in the event of a 30 mph hit. Besides if you have a FMIC and bump something without your bumper supports you will most likely damage the FMIC...if you have the bumper supports chances are you won't damage the FMIC. Just my opinion.:D

I'm going through this dilema right now...

Early on, the standard FMIC Apexi silvia core fit behind the bumper with some major hacking - but it did fit.

Now that I'm moving to the Apexi skyline core there's really no chance of fitting the bumper on anymore, so I've decided to go without.

My biggest concern in all of this is could it be an insurance risk should the car be in an accident? I mean, could the insurance company deny a claim because the car wasn't equipped with the proper saftey equippment? Who knows?

But I must say, there is some substantial weight savings in removing that bumber, that sucker must weigh about 20 lbs.

It basically just protects your bumper and front engine components in low speed crashes, in a higher speed crash the chassis protects you when it crumbles in crumble zones, not those thin plates holding the bumper support on. I doubt your insurance company would find out GSX.
