EGT Probe Install

I guess this is a newbie question but I searched and could not find anything. I have an EGT gauge that I am installing but I did not buy the 10' wire extension kit for it. Can I just use 10' of regular wire or do I have to buy the kit for the gauge? I would like to just use regular wire for it. Has anyone done this?

to my knowledge no you can't just use any ol wire.
