I have been readind and could not find an answer. My stock CD player took a shit. The radio and casette still work but the CD portion is jacked.

Now I have my 7500 song IPOD and all the music I could ever want....but driving with headphones sucks and is actually dangerous....3 days to many now.

I was thinking since the CD changer is optional I might have a AUX in on the back there. Wanted to double check before I took it all apart. Thanks.....by the way I dont have the CD changer, just know its an option. Thanks-Matt

ive been wanting to find out the answer for this for awhile...anybody have any answers? thanks

no you cant connect the ipod to your stock deck at all. the cable that connects is a spcial data cable that only works with the changer. you are better off going to circuit city and picking up either a mid level deck and an ipod connector and you will be all set. or you can try to find a tape that has the headphone jack on it and play it that way. personally i would change the cd player really easy to do and it just looks alot better.

Alright, Thanks for the info guys. I have the tape adapter and its alright, but honistly my audio set up is junk. Im missing my right rear speaker , my fronts are blown I think anyways and it just sucks. Im going to give it a slight overhaul....but I want the motivation of having the ability to play music before I go and get a nice set of speakers. Thanks again.

Some places like Best Buy and Circuit City have the ones that you can plug into your Ipod, and tune it to a certain Frequency and listen to your Ipod, and it only has to be in the car for it to do that. Check it out, its only like 20 or 40 bucks depending on the brand. Give it some research, and it will work, with tape or CD's, anything, all you need is a radio...

Nahh its junk to. static and what not. I want a wire from my ipod to the headunit, so it wil be crisp. Ill have to bite the bullet and snag an Ipod ready deck. Then get some decent speakers.

I have a really good Idea for mounting when its in the car..simular to how my old afc was incorporated to the interior...it just takes money. Thanks

I would just upgrade. I have a 95, so I had the stereo defiant posted above. Before, I always told myself, ahh the stock system is good enough. I use to have a 98 GS-T also, so I know all about the stereo you have also. The one with the auxilary input in the front with the equalizer was my favorite. Just having that AUX input there made things convenient. Sure it did not have a CD player like the one on my GS-T (I had a cd changer, but come on, who wants to go in the trunk all the time), but I got my mp3 cd player and a disc full of mp3s goes a long way.

Well, then I wanted some bass. I got a subwoofer and amp, and I did not want to ghetto wire it, so I bought a deck with seperate sub preouts. Next thing ya know, I get a 4 channel amp to power the new, components speakers, and rear speakers. And damn, now I could not have a car unless it has a sound system.

I love music, but I dont want to go all out with subs and this and that. just want 4 new speakers and I guess, now a headunit. Ill look around

Watch out when you ask people what to recommend. It is always mostly a biased opinion. And mostly with everything sucks except the brand they have.

I recently bought a 4 channel VR-3 amplifier. It has 50watt rms power. It is suppose to go on a GS-T that I get for daily driving. Whenever I find one. It sounded "good enough" while i was playing around with it in the store.

If you want an even cheaper alternative. Keep your stock infinity amp, buy an aftermarket deck of your choice. Almost all of them have 4 channel preouts. Get the MITAH adapter and use the stock amp to power the speakers. Aftermarket or stock, in which case I would switch them out too.

A lot of people will say toss the stock amp and let the deck power your speakers. I can't get all technical in this scenario, but I have had experience with both. I had my deck, power my aftermarket speakers. I thought hey, since its not stock, its better. Also btw if you do it that way, you won't have any tweeters, unless you rewire it.

I get the mitah adapter, which converts the rca preouts to the infinity proprietary plug to go to the stock amp, and voila you have a 4 channel amp and you dont have to solder anything. Also your stock tweeters will work.

How did it sound? A lot better then the aftermarket deck powering it. Who knows how much rms power the stock amp puts out, but your ears won't lie to you. I've done this in 2 different 2gs, 2 different setups. Mine coming from JVC kd-series. Almost top of the line model, 4volt preouts, pioneer r series all around. And my uncle's gs-t which has upgraded infinity speakers all around, pioneer deck. Both have that standard mosfet crap, what is it 40x4? or whatever the standard is. I read around that it only pumps out like 10-15rms power. I believe it by how much better using the stock amp was.

If you want good enough for really cheap, do that.

If you do decide to just get an entirely new amp, which I did, because I like to be able to control freq, gain for front and rear, etc. It is very easy on the 2g because all the wiring leads back to where the stock amp is. No need to rewire the entire thing.

Unless of course you are super duper into audio and want to upgrade to thicker wires for your speakers, and dont like how mitsu daisy chained it to go behind the deck.

Here is the MITAH adapter.. http://cgi.ebay.com/PERIPHERAL-MITA...ryZ60208QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

What if, all I wanted to do was get a new headunit...? Then what? Just get that and hard wire it in? Audio isnt my speciality.

If all you want is a deck, you will need the single din dash install kit (assuming its single din), and an optional wiring harness. You can hardwire it yes.

No need to buy it from expensive crutchfield.

Check your local bestbuy. They usually have both of those things.

Remember doing so you will lose your tweeters in the dash. I believe there is a writeup on how to wire it up so it works.

What you should do IMO is go to circuit city if there is one near by you and buy a 807001, a universal pocket, what ever cd player you want and also buy the harness that connects into the back of that radio. then buy yourself a ipod connector which is $50. that will take care of your ipod problem. do whatever for speakers but the radio that is the best way to go. personally i own a panosonic and find it is so easy to work the ipod and i have talked with other people that say the same thing.

Harness adapter. They have them on eBay for $6. You want the one that goes from the car to the radio. Using the included color codes, you connect it to the harness that comes with the radio, and then it plugs into the car without dicking anything up. As for the hole:

Thanks for all the help guys. I believe speakers and a headunit, Ipod ready are in order. Thats all Ill need. THanks.

You can just get a cord that goes from a stereo headphone jack to RCA cables and plug it into just about any aftermarket CD player instead of paying $100 for an ipod adapter.

And hey, this example is even "iPod white" to match your iPod. Just because a CD player is iPod ready doesn't mean you can just plug in your iPod. Usually you still have to buy an adaper that costs about $100.

Thanks for the info, that guy at best buy must have made it sound alot easier. Either way I want to get cracking on all this....

got to move some of these parts in my basement.

No one has mentioned it so I'm not sure if this has changed. But when I did my first eclipse with the factory upgraded Infinity system, I had problems with the crossovers required for the front door and dash tweeters. Wiring a straight deck meant I lost sound to the dash tweeters as most head units only have power for 4 speakers. To correct the issue properly also requires a crossover to split the frequency going to the front to speakers to split between the door and dash.

Does wiring into the stock amp avoid this problem?

Im about to get a freakin 3 prong plug adapter and just throw a boombox in back ROFL

I probably wont need the tweeters if I get 4 speakers new. I hope anyways

I hear ya! I went through the same thing when I did my swap.

I started out with a head unit and 4 new speakers, but found that the balance was not right with the 6x9 in the back and the front speakers in the door. Then I threw in a 4ch amp thinking bumping up the juice would help equalize it...but no. I eventually went in for a full Infinity component setup and mounted a set of directional tweeters on the doors behind the side mirrors. It sounded better, but wasn't worth all the upgrading. Granted I didn't have to replace my system...I choose to do that.

I have a theroy that the sound from the dash tweeters are amplified somehow by the windshield. The sound is 'fuller' like it emcompasses the entire cabin instead of directional from 4/6 points in the car. It was a nice blend.

Heres my sound system now

Stock radio ( dont know how to chance balance or fade ) with a broken CD player.

Rear pass speaker is taken out due to blowing.

I have nasty static from the stupid Ipod tape thing.

Found out the onything playing the music is the front Pass Tweater and possibly the speaker in the door. Honistly it sounds terrible, beyond that even.

I have a front mount sitting here that some guy is interested in for a trade on a head unit so after I get the specs on it Ill make a decision. As for speakers ( no subs ) but just speakers whats a decent ( not top notch make you piss your pants and jump for joy ) just good sounding cheaper maybe speakers? Thanks.

go to onlinecarstereo.com....they are by far the cheapest....look at MB Quart....mid range price with the best sound on the market. they are a top line brand of Rockford Fosgate...kinda like honda and acura.
