Cigarette lighter into a gauge holder?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I didn't put any gauges there, I would rather have them closer up top so I don't have to look down to see them. If you drag race, you should reconsider a pod.

I put my manual boost controller knob there.

i love mine and it was ez.. (just a boost gauge)

i got lazy and used the bulb/power from the cigarette lighter itself for the lighting.

ill post pics in the next couple days... i dont have any good shots of it at the moment.

I have seen a few pics floating around here that people have put a gauge where the cigarette lighter is on the 2g eclipses, and I am curious on how to do it?? Also, what size gauge is best?:thumb:

Pull the console, yank the lighter, hog out the hole and mount pretty much like any other panel-mount gauge. I'd not put an important one there, though, it's not particularly line-of-sight.

here ya go lighter is in the kick pannel

Nice!!!!!!
I might steal that idea if i ever finish puting my car together.

Hey thanks , yeah it was pretty easy. I was just scared drilling the hole in the dash. becasue its not flat and i didnt know if the gauge was going to sit flush or not but i chose the right spot and it worked ! soo im happy  and also the first one for the lighter thing

I don't use my cig lightrt and actually have an extra one hidden behind my passenger side kick panel for my radar detector. So if I do put the gauge there and need a ciggy lighter I could either have a screwdriver to get off the kickpanel or get half an ounce of energy and steal your idea.:D
I probaly won't but defintely nice though.

I have seen this before on a few car. Where they have put a gauge in where the lighter is.. How flush does the gauge mount up.. I have one gauge and no where to put it... I was going to put it in a center vent bezel but the one I have only had room for the safc.. Please help me out. I dont want to start cutting and have it look horrible.. Thanks..
Justin

Make sure it's not one you have to look at very often. Otherwise, plenty of room there, just cut less than you think you need so when you have to correct it you have some meat left.

I am a little more curious as to how flush it fits there.. You know what I mean.. Does anyone have any pictures.. I saw one on here one time but it didnt look like it was the cleanest job ever.. Thanks

The picture below is from long ago. Now I have a 60mm peak hold Greddy EGT guage there. I can post pictures of that too if you like. . . . . . If you're looking for a specific angle, let me know.

I took some pictures at extreme (different) angles; e.g. with the camera sitting flush on the center vents pointing down, the camera sitting flush below the steering wheel. At these extreme angles it appears that the guage sticks out quite a bit and looks terrible. However, when sitting in the passenger and drivers seat, you do not notice that it looks out of place. At these extreme angles it does appear that it sticks out quite a bit. Moreso, I have the guage aimed up and towards me so that at a quick glance I can read it -- this also accounts for how much it is "sticking" out. I can push it in much more flush that it is. . . . . if you need more pictures just let me know.

I Had my Boost gauge mounted there until i got my Lotek piller. Mine wasn't all the way flush because i didn't bore the whole all the way out. You can make it very flush just take your time. I'm ordering a Autometer Analog Clock to fill the hole and match my gauges. Look in my gallery i think there is a pic in there.

ANd you could always use aluminum foil on the Guage and a hot glue gun with a black (abs?) stick to fil in around the gauge itself and then carefully smooth it out with fine grit sand paper if needed.

Then flash it with a small torch (like the butane powered soldering irons) to give it that smooth look.

mounting a gauge down there is not the best spot IMO, nothing like having to take your eyes completely off the road to squint and read a gauge, why not mount it on the floor? Really though when I am haulin ass (my car is slow the only ass it hauls is mine) I barely have time to check boost, just when I'm gettin into it I check it then look back to the road, I can't imagine having to look down there and focus to read it for more than a second during each gear.

if you like it though thats what counts.

I almost never look down at the guage. When tuning I bring a friend (anyways) to hold the laptop, and monitor guages while I look for cops and just drive. Moreso the 60mm greddy guages can be wired to a buzzer-- so I have a radio shack buzzer way up under the dash. If my EGT's go into peak hold the buzzer goes off and *then* I let off and glance down. Since the last time I tuned (8 months ago?) I haven't had high egt's. . . . .

On top of all of that, I dont want guages up on the pillar. I have all my guages low and not seen from outside the car, my afc hidden away in the glove box, I am not looking to attract attention. I consider my car clean, and closest looking to stock at first glance, and that is exactly the look I want.

just my $0.10 :)
