So my cousin bought a full blitz bodykit for his 98 GS from VIS Racing because he's into rice and yesterday while installing the rear bumper we ran into a huge problem. The bumper has a huge gap under the p/s tail light and it also doesn't line up. When the bumper is mounted you can see about an inch and a half gap by looking straight ahead from behind the car and also when you look down at the bumper right under the tail light. It's not even fixable and now we're gonna have to trash it. Has anybody had any problems with VIS bodykits before? I mean I feel so stupid because he wanted to buy a cheap Ebay bodykit and I talked him out of it and recommended that he buy it from VIS because their kits fit perfect. I just feel stupid now because he thinks I dont know what I'm talking about. Now they wont accept a return because he's had it for about a month and their kits are sold as is with no warranties.

You are not the first one. A member with Drift something in his userId mentioned the same thing in his post when he bought it.

www.extremedimensions.com or www.krazykustomz.com sell good body kits.

Yeah I found it, wish I had seen this before:

Just read this thread. This shit is so funny because his description of the problem is the exact same shit I went through along with itching from the fiberglass.

Yup, that's the guy tunerkid. I thought it was drift something, but he had a drift kit. Just get another rear bumper, should cost you probably $200-$250.

My buddy had ordered a front bumper from ViS for his mustang. The bumper was made of fiberglass as most of their bumpers are. To the untrained eye it looked like a pretty solid bumper, but it was flimsy as hell. It wasn't sturdy at all and we had planned to build up the layers of fiberglass ourselves to make it stronger, but it wasn't worth it. So we scrapped it. It seems ViS' quailty is going downhill, thats why I decided to get my hood from Extreme! Sorry about your cousins luck RW.

I think it is just their body kits. I have a VIS hood, and I have no problems with it.

Yeah, I have their CF hood and it fits perfect. I think it's just bodykits that they have a problem with and also customer service. Now my cousin just wants to buy one off ebay as he planned to do initially...we'll see how that goes. I'll get some pics later so you guys can see how bad it is. It's even worse than the pic that tunerkid had in that old thread. The funny thing is we were so sure that it would fit perfect that we installed the reverse lights, license plate lights and the license plate before we tried fitting it with the tail lights in and when we did my heart just fell to the bottom of my stomach. This happened yesterday and I'm still pissed today.

Same here man, Carbon Fiber hood fit perfectly on my old car... have heard bad things about there body kits. Good luck!:dsm:

Yeah I know that, but at the same time you're not expecting the fitment to be so far off. This shit wasn't even close dude.

yea the vis carbon fiberhoods fit great... but they even recalled one bodykit my buddy solld from his shop... so if they sold u that imagine what this one must of looked like LOL...

Thier C/F hood fit perfect, but it's been a couple years now and it's completely yellowing and cracking around the hood pins and the under skeleton. Oh well.

did u get a clear coat put on? my 3g eclipse had some cracking and fading but i dont know what the guy before me did to it...

You shouldn't need to clear a C/F hood. They epoxy used is what dictates whether the hood will yellow or not.

why not just re shape the bumper to fit? Anything is fixable, i mean i bought a 95 eclipse blitz rear end and converted it to fit on my 97 talon. I still have the OE talon lights with the blitz rear so if that is possible then fixing a fitment issue is nothing. That should take you like 2 or 3 days to fix.

Not worth it dude.

Um sure. If you figure it would cost you 2 days to fix, and about 30 dollars. Compared to scrapping a VIS body kit (extremely marked up in price) and buying a new kit, plus paying shipping again (probably 150 bucks). I would work for 2 days and spend 30 bucks then not work for those days and spend about 700 total (at least). Think of how many days of work that is at your job compared to 2 days of work in the afternoons. Do the work, keep the money and buy more stuff for the car.

RWK, I'm sorry to hear about the bumper. Alteast it's just the rear, rather then the whole car.

As a fiberglass guru myself, you can easily fix this. Find some foam to fill the 1" gap under ther taillight. Trim the foam to fit the angle of the bumper's mold. Go to a hardware store and buy a small package of MATTED (stronger) fiberglass along with resin, some brushes, and masking tape.

Mask off your taillights, then measure out the length and width of your area to be cover. make sure you scuff the bumper so the fiberglass can ahdere to it. Dip your brush in the resin and put a thin coat on the surface of your area. Just enough for the fibgerglass to catch so it stays in place when you apply more resin. Lay the fiberglass as EVEN and symmetrical as possible. Brush more resin on the top, and repeat with I'd say a good 3 or 4 layers would be suffice. WHen you're done, trim the overapping fiberglass and begin sanding. Once it's close it smooth, apply a thin coat of filler and sand some more. Eventually it will be smooth, and strong. As long as it's not near or intruding on the mounting points, you should be fine.

This may seem like a alot of work, but trust me, it's much better then buying the new bumper and waiting for it to arrive.
I'm doing a write-up on repairing a bumper that will be installed on my car sometime this week. Maybe it will give you a better idea of the whole process, or atleast some insight.
Either way, hope I helped with your decision atleast, good luck with it. PM me if you need details on the process. :thumb:

 Well you know what, I see your point and I won't be a dick about it but there's just two problems:
1.) The kit is not mine and it wasn't completely my decision to trash the bumper. The sides and front fit fine it's just the rear bumper. He already ordered a new rear bumper from some local shop so hopefully it works out because I'll have to help him install it again.

2.) We have no experience with doing fiberglass work and I don't intend to.

Hopefully you see why it's not worth it

Good instructions but it's not just a 1 1/2 inch gap under the p/s tail light but there's a gap going outwards about from the rear of the car and trust me you just gave me a good fiberglass repair 101 tutorial but as I stated above it's not worth it. See, if it was my car I'd probably attempt to repair it myself because I'm a hands on type of dude but I just think that because we were so pissed we let our emotions took over the situation and he already bought a new one. I believe he still has the bumper so if anyone wants a free bumper it's all yours for the taking if you live local or want to pay for shipping.

well good luck, that sucks that you had to make a choice to begin with. And i wasnt trying to be mean about my comment, just putting it in perspective working wise. Good luck :)
