Is it possible to take the 1G headlights apart and paint the back peice black, like the 97-99's, or will it cause loss of reflection. Because arent the back of lights "chromed" to reflect the light. Will i still get enough light out of them if the backround is black?

You can do it to the 2g headlights so I'm sure you can do it with the 1G ones also

i dont know if the reflection will even work like that blue, cause you have the "magnafiying lense" headlights, if you know what i mean, ours are clear???? i dont know id try it if i had 2 sets of headlights.....

I've got one apart now, and im just working on cleaning up the lense, im going to wetsand it first, inside and out, then polish it up real good. But i still havent decided if i want to paint the Chrome part. The other question, is would i have to rough up the chrome part with sandpaper first, or will the paint still on its own? I was also maybe thinking of matching it to the car color, but not sure how that would look. Anyways, i'll post pics when its completed.

I don't thing you have anything to pain that black chrome .

If you look closer the black chrome is only the flat parts of the head light not the reflectors . the reflectors are regular chrome and the black is the reflection in the reflectors .

I don't own a 2g so i might be wrong .

I agree with TsiArt01, the reflectors are still chrome but the actual housing around the lights is black. it'd still look good and your lights will still work properly

i believe this is what your wanting to look at...
