where to buy audio stuff cheap???

Ebay or Half.com man, I always buy my stuff through either of those 2 related sites...great deals, and more competitive prices since it's nation wide competition rather than local. I got a Pioneer cd player for $150 on there that was about $250+ at the local audio shops.

If yer GF never plans to add a sub or aftermarket speakers, Sony is fine. If this is the first step in a system, I personally recomend Eclipse, Alpine, or Pioneer. I own an Alpine, and it replaced a Sony (which sucked nuts). Go to Circuit City or Magnolia Hi-Fi; they're prices aren't as low as some online choices, but their Performance guarantees are as good as gold (they cover things like skipping, over-heating, etc). If your GF drives the car, it will get dirt in the player, that is a fact. If the player is dirty, it will sound worse. The units themselves need cleaning every year (trucks more like twice a year) or they will lose power and signal. I took my Alpine to Circuit after owning it for a year, it had started to skip after listening to it for an hour and a half straight. They couldn't repair it, so they gave me my money back, plus the price of the Performance Guarantee. So, I bought a slightly less expensive model and 3 cd's plus a performance Guarantee and paid $8 out of pocket. Okay, I rambled, but spend a couple bucks and she will appreciate the lack of worry over the broken Xplod.:thumb:

I was thinking on getting this Alpine, it's the CDA-7897. It's $599 on Crutchfield, anyone know where I can get it for cheaper?

try bestbuy or circuit city (electronic stores). i dunno if you have one where you live, i'm sure you should...they are pretty big. as always people are forgetting about kenwood headunits, they are just as good. that's what i have and i love it :thumb:

I have not found a Kenwood deck yet that gave me the adjustability of a Pioneer or the clarity of an Alpine. I have listened to Excellon decks, and they honestly sound good, I just think other options are better.:dsm:
