Ported or non ported box

I have a 12in kicker solobaric L7. Right now i have a custom made box in my trunk, but im tired of not haveing any trunk room so im going to build a new one. I have friends who have told me that my kicker would hit harder if my box was ported is this true?

ported boxes are louder when tuned properly. theyre also bigger. i have my 12L7 ported in a giant box and it pounds hard and i'm still breaking it in. its all about how much space you can give up..

With my experience sealed boxes are louder. Ported boxes are deeper and the base gets drawn out so its good for rap.. I listen to a lot of rock so a sealed box is what I use cause its a direct base hit for the drums..

Type of box depends on the type of music you listen to and the trunk space you have. If the sub calls for 2.2 cu ft per sub and you only have 2.5 total, you have no option but to make a sealed box.

Please make sure you invest your money in a good box. Ported box are suppose to be tuned to get the maxium performance out of the sub. You don't want to put a very nice sub and amp setup into a pepboys box!

pretty sure my ported box plays more than one note. i think what you meant was that sealed boxes will play all notes (that the sub is capable of) equally loud, while ported will be exceptionally louder at the tuned frequency, while still capable of producing sound at all other frequencies.

and why do you say ported wont rattle the car as much??? i believe the output on a ported box is much more than sealed, which also means its going to make more vibration. either way though, the car and box should be properly deadened so things DONT rattle.

I think he meant:
SEALED - Will play more then 1 note - LOUD
PORTED - Will only play 1 note - THAT IT IS TUNED FOR LOUDER THAN THE OTHER ONES

My sealed box has subs pointed towards the glass in the rear hatch and I get good sound with minimal vibrations. It depends on placement of the subs and direction it is point in too.
