Top Mount 6x9, max mount depth??

Does anyone know the max top mount mounting depth for a 2G? I want to know how much clearance I have so I can buy a replacement pair that won't blow. The stock Infinity 6x9's are bottom mount, correct?

I'm looking at these brands and don't wanna spend over 200...

JBL Power Series P-9632 - 2way - top-mount depth 3-1/4"
JBL GT Series GTO925 - 2way - top-mount depth 3-1/16"
Infinity Kappa 692.5i - 2way - top-mount depth 3-1/4"
Kicker Impulse i6903 - 3way - top-mount depth 3-1/4"

Mounting the speaker on the bottom of the baffle board or the top of it.

I can't speak for certainty about the 2G, but the 1G mounts don't give you anything like enough space to mount *any* decent 6x9 without a serious spacer and some work on the interior panels.

I think you're going to be SOL trying to mount anything that wants 3" or more of rear clearance when topmounted, sorry.

Well, according to Crutchfield, the max top mount depth is 2 7/8th's which albiet very small, is not beyond the realm of possibility. Most of those 6x9's would need a 3/16th - 3/8th size spacer. I dunno, I am gonna have to rip apart the rear panel and find out for sure. Thanks for all your input though...

The rear is a top mount. You can fit a bigger speaker if you bang out the wheelwell. I had to do that to fit my BA's. It did break up the sound deadening sheet but I sprayed over everything with noise killer. You can also seal up the enclosure pretty well with some silicon.

I finally went with the Infinity Reference 3way 6x9. Top mount depth is 2 7/8" hopefully it'll be all good.

Speaking of spacers, does anyone know where I can get some MDF speaker spacer rings?

The only suppliers I've been able to find are in the UK and Asia, and I really don't feel like importing a couple of stupid little donuts of wood.

A US distributor for Aerpro would be ideal...

MDF is amazingly easy to work with and if it cracks, just slab some glue on an its good as new.
