1g headliner

Same way in a 1g as a 2g for the most part.

Remove the old one, peel it off, spray the adhesive on, then lay the new headliner on and smooth it out. When its dry, cut the holes out for the clips and everything.

I just replaced the headliner in my car about a month ago. The whole process is pretty easy, and a write-up can be found here.

I thought the hardest part was removing all the trim in the car to remove the headliner board. If you decide to replace it, I'd have a friend come over and help when you're attaching the new fabric to the board. It really helps in terms of not getting wrinkles and stuff in the new fabric. Mine turned out great, it looks so much better now, and I'd definitely recommend doing it if yours is falling apart.

As stated above, its a really easy to do job. I followed the article and mine turned out really good. It cost me about 30 bucks to do (10 bucks for fabric from an apolstery shop, which had almost the exact color, and 20 for 2 cans of high temp adhesive). Just make sure you get all of the old liner off by using a coarse brush, and spray a lot of adhesive on for best results. Mine was done a year ago and it looks new. I also found that the best way to get the board out is through the trunk/hatch. I used a lint roller to smoothe it out after applying the adhesive, just make sure you start in one corner and work your way out diagonally towards the other to get out all the air bubbles.

Holy Shite!!! My article was referenced!!! LOL

I'm glad you found it useful, and glad to see other people are having success with it as well!

it is really very easy to remove it and make a new one. it took me all of 10 min to do it, just make sure that you make the hole for such things as; sunvisors, light, and moon/sunroof if you have one of those. definatly use a lin roller or something like that, in order to get out all of the air bubbles as bird of prey mentioned. good luck

I did it on my 90awd...Pain in the ass if I might add, did it all on my own...You WILL probably rip the headliner piece in a few places, no big deal, tape shouldn't show once you put the new fabric over...I did mine up in black fabric...Cost about $40 total since I needed some extra stuff and all, no biggie, it came out great!!

I have a thread about when I did it a while ago, I never posted the after pics tho...Oh well, it came out good, black looks the best:cool:

Wire Brush really comes in handy, that's the biggest pain, getting out all of the old adhesive from the headliner....Some clips are hard to find, and will be even harder to put back in....Good luck, it's a learning experience:p
