New Sub Box

Updated Pics. Finally finished the install, I think it sounds awesome. Just need to clean all the strands of wire off of the carpet. I am also going to carpet the fuel access plate and make a braket to hold the capacitor down.
My Dad and I built a new sub box for the car. It was a pain in the ass to do at first, but I think it came out awesome. The box will house (1) 10 inch Kicker L7. With an amp on each side.

i had a sony 1200 watt 12 mounted like that for awhile. it didn't sound as good as a box in the trunk. there is no where for the sound to go but in your head. it's loud though.

Doesn't look to bad, but I would imagine it would be loud, especially since it will be facing you. You should probley put back your carpet and stuff and kinda make it look nice.

Unique design though. Its good to see people trtying out new stuff.

Haha no dont worry im not going to keep it like that. I just put it in for the final test fit, as you can see how close the top of the box fits right below the strut bar. I decided to snap a few pics while it was in. It fits like a glove. I still have to cut the hole in the middle for the sub, and drill holes for the amp wires to come through. Then I will carpet it and install the subs and amps.

that box looks fairly small for a 12L7...how much airspace is that? which year L7 are you using? just curious

so do you know how much airspace there is? i'm glassing a 12L7 in my spare tire well/hatch area...one thing i would recommend though is revising that design and port the box...SQ is actually a bit better on ported L7s i think...plus its louder. what amps are you powering it with?

Its a little less then 1.0 cubic feet. Max is 1.0 min is .66 for a 10in L7 in a sealed box. I will be using a kicker 600.1 amp and a mtx amp for the 2 rear speakers above the box.

It would sound 100x better facing backwards. I don't understand why people always think that if the sub is facing them it will sound better/be louder. With regular speakers that would be the case, but a subwoofer will sound better facing backwards/up, so the sound waves are "bouncing" off the hatch glass.

Subwoofers always sound better in a hatch (actually anything) facing tord the back of the vehicle due to bass taking so far to produce. It helps by bouncing off the rear window or trunk lid that makes the bass produce quicker and it gives it further before you hear it to. I don't understand why this is but that is how it works.

Thanks, well I have 2 6x9's in the rear hatch cover as you can see in the pics. So if I put the sub in the trunk it might affect how they sound. Also I dont like to much bass, I think it sounds horrible when the bass white noises most of the highs and mids. Also i think it will look cool to look at the back seat area and have a sub and 2 amps facing towards me.

I had a kicker 12inch l7 pointing straight up, i didnt like how it sounded, i think the 10in l7 this way sounds much better.
