Niagara,
Does anyone know any good companies that make aftermarket brake calipers for a FWD 2g N/T? I've seen a couple from Brembo, but I want to compare them to something. if anyone can give me alink, or a name of a company that makes a decent set, that would be great. Thanks

Well any brake kit that works on other 2g eclipses will work on your eclipse. So you have bear, stoptech, willwood, etc... however just adding larger brake rotors won't do anything for you unless you also enlarge the area they can clamp onto(the rotor). If you are on a semi budget you could always put on the awd brakes and maybe paint them if that's your thing. If you have an rs upgrading to disc brakes in the rear will help tremendously too.

I actually have a FWD 97 Talon. the front brakes are disc brakes, but the rear are drum brakes. I'm getting new brakes for the front and rear, I was just wondering which are the best looking, and reasonalby priced calipers? I dont want to just pain my stock ones, I wanted to get a new set to go with the flow, I didn't want people to see a nice set of drilled rotors, then stock calipers. To me thats only 50% of the battle. So if anyone has, or knows of any good calipers that are reasonably priced, could you let me know the company, or link. Thanks.

Also, is it common to change the rear brakes from the drum to the disc? If I could put the but the same disc rotors all the way around, that would be easier. Any feedback would help, I'm really interested in doing a brake upgrade, but I'm not familiar with prices or anything, I only have a general knowledge of the whole system. Thanks

Not to sure on the front, I seen acouple of front big brake kits on ebay or upgrade to AWD front brake system. But for a rear drum to disc brake conversion, you can use parts from FWD 2g eclipse or talon. These might be hard to come by. For a cheaper solution, go to the junkyard and look at the Avengers. There rear suspension are nearly identical to ours. You can use there parts for a disc brake and also swaybar conversion. There are write-ups and MUCH more info at 2gnt.com Suspension forum.

Very good drum-brake conversion writeup.

If money is not an issue, then go for these name brands..

I also have drums in the back right now... but here is how I'm doing my conversion;

I've bought a pair of dual piston calipers from a 1G DSM (you can also get them off the Diamonte I believe). These will replace my current front calipers. Then, for the rear to replace the drums, I bought 2G GST rear calipers. They're used, but in good condition and cost so much less because calipers are pretty expensive parts. If they need to be rebuilt, there are kits out there for that and I hear are cheap too.

Then, I'm buying stainless steel brake lines for front and rear. I will have to buy a pair of SS lines for a turbo 1G (for those front dual piston calipers) and then I'll buy a pair of SS lines for a 2G GST (for those rear single piston calipers off a GST).

Just a way to improve your stopping power as well as save *a lot* of money that can go elsewhere or into other mods for the car.
