I've currently got a TON of engine and road noise coming in my spyder. I realize I am going to have a fair amount no matter what, but I am attempting to reduce it. I plan on trying to layer the firewall and certain areas under the carpet to see if I can reduce it.

I'm considering Peel & Seal as I can't afford Dynamat. Does anyone have experience with this stuff? I'ven heard it can cause a tar smell when it gets too hot, is that true? I don't want my car smelling like tar.

Does anybody have experience sealing out noise? Any ideas are welcome.

They sell this sound deadening rubber coating stuff at autozone.. I use it on the insides of my fender wells... helped a lot with tire noise... cause these Toyo's I got are loud.

I know that doesn't help much, but look for that off brand dyno mat stuff... or check home depot for something like dynomat

I put some fatmat in my trunk so my sub would sound better. I cant hear my muffler at all now with the windows up. You can get this stuff from ebay for pretty cheap. i paid 40 i think for a 50 sq ft roll of it. if you get it make sure you install a couple of layers as it is thinner than dynamat.

ive heard very good things about that rubber coating stuff. i cant remember the exact name of it but i know exactly what you are talking about.

There are a lot of "fake dynamat" things, many of which work better than the original. For instance SecondSkin basically out does dynamat in every single category they could be compared in. However, this is still a bit pricey.

BrownBread, FatMat, and eDead are all good alternatives. I personally would go with a closed cell foam with an aluminum backing to quiet road noise and all that. The rubber things just add weight to the metal such that id doesn't resonate. The foam options actually block noise.

Check this site out. http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/

It has a lot of useful information about how to, why, comparisons, and the best sound deadners for your given application.
I went with Raammat Bxt with their ensolite foam and it did wonders for road noise, it just very time consuming. Hope this helped.:thumb:

I wouldn't recommend going too cheap with brands such as Brown Bread,
Peel and Seel, or Fatmat. They are ashalt based products which can actually leak in your car under hot temperatures leaving a sticky, nasty smelling mess.
