I have a 1st gen Laser, and someone broke my door handle trying to steal my car, but they didn't get in.... it broke kinda like the picture shows of the 2nd gen handle breaking in the tech articles... is there anyway I can repair this since no pieces are missing and it is just the two , what i assume to be plastic, pieces there that are broken???

Hey, I had the exact same thing happen to me and my 90 TSi. There was no easy fix for me, I had to get a new door handle and replace it. The tech artice for the 2g is a pretty good guideline to follow if you do decide to replace it too. Sorry I wasn't much help. Good luck.

well i figure since the pieces that broke are both pretty big pieces, i was gonna use the article for 2g's and try the wire... but I was wondering if the plastic or whatever it is can somehow get eproxied or anything? anyone here good with that type of knowledge, like what type of "paste" to use on certain types of plastics???

naw,i don't know of an epoxy that will hold the pressure of you opening the door.the good news is,after you do replace the handle, there is now a reinforcement for them on ebay.It reinforces the weak part with metal.

can i get a link to that ebay auction, i searched ebay and found nothing in my 5 searches... thanks for all the help guys, i very much appreciate it.

what type of epoxy did you use spooling??? alot of stores are telling me they don't have "epoxy strong enough to hold up to the pressure of you opening the door"...

i dont remember the name right off hand but i got it at autozone.ill try to find the package.

I used the 2g write up article, but all i did was use a 1/8th bit in my dremel, drilled two holes straight threw teh 2 major plastic pieces that broke, used pliers and sent a paper clip threw them, than i topped it off by take teh pliers and twisting the clip till it broke off the long ends, than using the pliers i also made the top stub of spun paper clip go right up against the plastic pieces that are broken so when i opened the handle, they wouldn't rub... it seems to work pretty good on its own for strength, but I want to also put some strong epoxy for plastics on it, just to rest my head easier at night... anyone else who thinks this is a good idea or should i just replace it and get a color matched part that will never actually match the color just right...
