Calgary,
So I just bought a car from this guy in Batavia, IL and found a few problems. One, he said it wasn't in an accident and it clearly was. Looks like a fender bender, but they tried to do some sort of hack job with the repair.

Long short, the fenders need replacing and the front bumper is salvageable at best. Undercarrage looks fine from what I can see. Theres a bit of rust on in the engine bay where the struts are.

I tried to pop the trunk open, only to find it doesn't pop open all the way. After pulling the lever it clicks up and trys to open, but its being stuck on something. Only comes up about an inch at best, then I have to push it down to close. Any ideas?

I'm an ex honda guy. Raced an RSX Type S for a while, and I'm a bit concerned with a noise coming from the engine bay. If this car was an RSX I'd defiantly take it in to check the valve lash, but... Basically what it sounds like is a very faint ticking. I haven't heard another GSX, so I'm curious if I should get this car into a dealership immediately or if this is normal.

Thanks guys!

The ticking is normal. The ports on the valve lash adjusters are too small and cause a 'tick.' You can solve the problem with the updated version. Search ebay for "3mm lifters" or "3g lifters." Best prices I've found are on ebay.

nobody have any ideas on this hatch issue?

I'll check into those lifters. Is there a known issue with failure of the 2g gsx ones?

What car a few years old doesnt have some sort of lifter tick? ROFL As for the hatch, watch to see if its binding on anything, if not its probably the hatch struts. Relatively cheap fix. Just swapped my hood struts off of my other car for $20 a piece from Crappy Tire(seeing you're in Calgary I'm sure you know what I'm talking about).

I don't elieve there is any issue with the lifters. Just an annoyance.

No ideas on the hatch. Just try to check everything out and see what's binding or broke.

Woot, always happy to help out a Calgarian! What a trip to get the car up to cowtown.

The ticking would be at it's worst in the cold weather now. It's called Lifter tick.. yes you can just deal with it, even my friend's integra can get it once in a while, but it's VERY common to have it on the DSM's. A can of engine restore and a healthy diet of Mobil 1 Synthetic can quiet it to a minimum. You could go with the 3g lifters if you are up to replacing them.

As for the hatch, sounds like just the mechanism in the trunk is crusty/old... and is binding up. You'd have to look closer, it's not a big deal if you want to just replace the mechanism. As long as your key still works, then you're fine. Mine hates cold weather and I can't use the key to turn it unless I bang on the hatch.

Good luck with the car, one of these days I'll return home... maybe with my baby as a race car, or maybe with an evo :)

See thats the problem, I cant get it open whatsoever. When I use a key, the hatch pops up a little bit then gets stuck.

I'll have another looky see and maybe I can figure out whats going on tonight.

It might be hard to see that mechanism, I think you'll have to push it over to one side, maybe the spring is too tight/seized. You might have to flip down the back seats and crawl back to see how it's getting stuck.
