Hello,

This is my first message to the forum so hello again.

I had an accident with my 98 Eclipse RS last week. Left fender teared off like a paper but there's no damage to the engine. I went to a few local body shops around and they gave me too expensive cost that's why i want to buy the parts from ebay and give them to body shop and fix it for me. I need left fender, left headlights and a front bumper(they told me that they can fix the bumper but it's all scratchy so i want to change it too). Do you think it's a good idea to buy these parts from ebay? Local body shops told me they were going to use aftermarket products. Which fender, bumper and headlight(i can go halo) do you recommend from ebay or any other online retailer?
(They charged me $1300 with after market products. Prices they gave me;
RECOND BUMPER COVER: $251.00
A/M CAPA LT Fender : $145.00
LT Fender liner : $23.98
A/M LT Headlamp assy all : $292.00

And this is the picture of the damage

I would first try to find your parts at a junk yard and see how much that costs you. I fixed a Sentra that would've been classified as "totaled" with parts from a junk yard for a lot less than a body shop would've charged. I would also suggest to try to fix it yourself, because I don't think it was that hard. I would buy the parts at the best price you can find and then it's really just simple bolt for the body panels and headlight. The only problem you may run into would be if you experienced body damage behind the panels, then bolting on may not be so easy. Also once you get everything on, I would take it to get painted unless you think you can do that too. But first see if you can find the right parts for you car at a junkyard, they will most likely be cheaper than anywhere else, and try to fix it yourself. When you fix something yourself it's more gratifying and a lot cheaper. I'd also try to pick up a Haynes manual if you don't already have one.

nice job! LOL, what did you hit??

Get your replacement headlight on ebay, for less then 100$...

Get a cheap ebay, or junkyard fender would be best, along with front bumper, if you can get them all in the same color black you wont even need to have it painted. Install yourself, it's easy.

Thanks for the answers. I hit an old truck when i made a sudden left turn. It was all my mistake.

I really want to do it myself but do i need extra tools to do this ? I don't even have a personal garage, i will do it on our parking lot. Do you think it is really easy to do it ? I don't want to mess up everything.

Btw, will i need extra parts for the fender or the bumper and which headlight would you recommend from ebay ?

Thanks

(One more question; is there a manual around for removing the fender?)

Its a pretty easy job, you will need at the most a 10mm socket, 12mm socket, 12-16" worth of socket extensions and a ratchet. A star screw driver to. oh anda 10mm box end wrench.

Just look around the fender and pull off all the bolts holding it on, they are pretty easy to find, dont forget about the ones behind the door.

I think It's best to pull the headlights off first, then the bumper, then the fender. If you can find a stock/cheap front drivers headlight on ebay grab that one. Or get a cheap one from a junk yard :)

I am the KING at finding good stuff on ebay. I buy 3/4 of my stuff on there and save my money!!

RECOND BUMPER COVER: $251.00
A/M CAPA LT Fender : $145.00
LT Fender liner : $23.98
A/M LT Headlamp assy all : $292.00
Total : $712

Headlights (left and right) - $140

Total - $311

They are ripping you off hardcore.

If you wanted to do the conversion all you would need is a different bumper cover and headlights. I have a spare 97-99 bumper cover that was never used (stilli n plastic/bubble wrap), and the headlights on ebay run the same price. Just giving you some options.

If you want to do this yourself then I would recomend calling junkyards and finding body panels that are already the same color as your car so you don't have to worry about painting.

First of all, you can't really mess anything up that much. If you happen to put the fender on wrong, just unbolt it and bolt it back on right, it's not really like you're welding it back to the body or anything and it's a one shot deal. The hardest part will most likely be the lights, but since it doesn't look like serious damage has been done, it shouldn't be too bad.
The hardest part will be loosing screws and bolts. And about getting a manual, I would pick up a haynes manual at Advance, Pep Boys, etc. It can come in really helpful with other stuff you may need help with down the road too, it's a good investment. Unbolting parts off your car may seem scary at first, but once you get your feet in the water, it's really not too bad and seems much easier than you thought.

I'm not sure if its a national company or not but i was in a wreck not too long ago and had to replace fender, hood, and lights on my 91 TSi. Went to body shops and got ridiculous quotes but happen to see they get body parts from a company called Certi-Fit. They happened to have a local warehouse so I was able to walk in and walk out with all of my parts for nearly half of what the shop wanted. As far as doing the work yourself...it depends on how bad the damage is. Mine ended up on a frame machine but with the certi-fit parts, it looks factory again.
