So I'm getting ready to purchase my audio stuff. And I'm stuck on deciding whether to get an in dash flip out screen. Like the Alpine ones or maybe a Panasonic. If I got it then I'd put a PS2 with it. Otherwise I'd just get a nice headunit for around $200. So what I want to know is the lcd screen worth the extra $500-$700. I'm thinkin it be great to be able to play games, watch dvds and watch tv (with a tuner). But I'm not sure if I would even use it that much. My friends are tryin to get me to get one so they can enjoy it while I'm driving. Anybody that has one or has had one have any input or advice? Thanks in advance.

is your car a daily driver? if so....yeah you'll love it....so will people wanted to break in your car...

i thought the same thing then i got it. Its cool for long trips but its nice to have i hooked my playstation 2 to my on dash screen its alright i kinda want to sell it now though. It will get old . it did for me

A cheap alternative would be a fixed (stand-alone) monitor and ps2 for your games and DVD. You would also need a fm modulator to hook the ps2 up to your HU (for sound) and a power converter to run your ps2 off your 12v power supply safltey. You should be able to pick up a monitor for around $200, ps2 for $200, and a nice HU for around $200-$300. All together the setup should be around $700...where as if you purchased an indash dvd/monitor you would be looking at spending well over $1500 and still not have the ability to play games. I hope this makes sense....

yea I thought I woudl watch movies on it all the time (it plays dvds) but i dont. mine is touch control thats abotu the only thing I really use it for, its just alot easier to use esp with the mp3 players and stuff. other wise I think that they are overrated. nice for a while but they get old

I know about the option of getting a stand alone screen but went against it because it wouldn't be able to retract and hide. This probably sounds weird since people can still steal the flip out monitor but at least it would be somewhat hidden. I already have the PS2 so just looking at a monitor. Ebay has some good deals but not any great ones. I am worried about it gettin old since I'm sure it probably will. I just can't decide, keep goin back and forth every day.

How about a small 5" screen custom mounted in each visor? It would be a little more different, a little more custom...and still hide-able. Doubt it would cost too much to have an audio shop mount a screen in each one, as long as you do all the wiring and buy all the components yourself (online) you should come out less than a indash unit, plus you'll have 2 screens instead of one! You really don't need a indash DVD player if you already have a PS2. Just a thought.

Forgot to add main reason why I'm wanting it. After christmas I'm going to a different school (Winfred Military Academy, dont ask whyOMG ) and every morning drive I'm gonna be sittin on the highway for 1-2 hours dependin on the day it is. And mornin radio isn't that interestin so thas why i want to be especially be able to watch tv and maybe some dvds.
