spoiler problems

I have a 93 eclipse gs, the other day i went to open my hatch and the spoiler felt like it broke. i knew when i bought it it had a problem with water leaking into the hatch, the spare tire well was filled with water, and the spoiler was a little loose. well now its really loose, i tried to tighten the bolts but they just spin freely. what can i do to fix this problem?

most likly the plastic clip that those 2 bolts tighten into are either broken or stripped. if broken, you can try glueing them back together, or get new ones from a dealer (used ones from someone in the classifieds/ebay if you can find them.

If the clips are not broken, just stripped, take the old bolts out and use slightly larger bolts, they will make some new thread into that plastic clip.

I recently took off my spoiler, which also had the 2 broken clips, you need two guys. i spun the bottom bolts while my dad pry it up. this broke the two clips. what we did then was, i think it was a 10mm wrench, we put the wrench on a long bar then stuck it in the spoiler through the brake light hole. with the wrench on you can then loosen the bottom bolts. i ended up snapping the bolts. you can try to find new clips, but my mitsubishi dealership couldn't find the part number to the clips. i had to make a new clip. i took 2 aluminum plates, drilled a whole in the middle, then i fitted a nut into the one side so that the metal clip won't break like the plastic one. after that i put the new clip on, bended the bracket on the spoiler to hold it down, and then i screwed the 2 plates together and siliconed everything, hoping the nut won't fall out. i then put the spoiler on. i hope that helps.
