On my 95 Talon TSI, the stock stereo has started giving me problems. The biggest part of the problem is it doesnt happen all the time. Basically, once in awhile the radio will be playing and all of a sudden the speakers will crackle and no more sound. Within seconds it will come back but continue doing this until I get tired of it and turn the radio off. At first I thought maybe a bad ground, but if a CD is in the player, it will keep playing, just the sound is cutting out.
So I removed the cd player part of the stereo, the next time the radio began cutting out, I grabbed the wiring harness going into the back of it and shook it. I found the wires that go to the speakers, and found that if i shake them, the crackling/cutting out gets better and worse.
This led me to beleive the wiring or connections were bad, checked them and found nothing. So last night the radio didnt cut out for more then 30 minutes of driving. I grabbed the wires and shook them and couldnt get them to crackle at all. Almost like the problem went away.
This morning I leave for work, right away the speakers are cutting out. I shake the wires and it get better/worse as i shake them. Shut the radio off, then this afternoon on my way home try it again, worked perfect all the way home.

Whats going on here? Im starting to wonder if something is screwed up inside the radio itself. But hate to replace it if it is something else. Any ideas are appreciated.

I get the same thing with my stock radio. But, to me, it seems like if I hit a bump it happens. I haven't gone to check it all out but I'm pretty sure it's because of the wiring. Before you replace the entire radio, double check all your wiring, I'm sure it's just a loose connection. If you find that they are all intact, then go ahead with replacing it. Hopefully it works out for ya. :talon:

mine will do it sitting still in the driveway though, doesn't need a bump to make it do it.
The thing I dont understand is why some times its perfect, and me shaking the wires will do nothing, then other times it will crackle like crazy and shaking the wires will make it stop for alittle while. You'd think that if the wires were lose or getting a bad connection, it wouldnt work this way.

I know nothing about stereo/car audio so Im pretty much lost when it comes to this stuff.

if you check the stock amp under the passanger seat, you can turn on the radio and jiggle the ground, usually it gets loose, so if it turns the speakers on and off thats your problem. just tighten it up and bam it should work, if not check the other wires the same way. :dsm:

yah, I agree with checking the amp out, check all those connections underneath the passenger seat, also, check the fuse underneath the dash board, it might be slowing dying. Explore, LOL. :talon:
