Hey guys i have been in a pretty good argument and i said i would post it on here to let some of the other custom painters on here answer, there just a few questions that two people are aguing with me about.

For one how many coats of paint do you use?and how long do you wait between each coat?and the same with clear.

I know stupid questions and as im typing this they are aguing with me,but they do not want me to say what i do until you guys reply,so help me end this stupid debate.thanks guy ROFL :dsm:

Well for basecoat it depends on what the effect of the color is, for a pearl paintjob you can put on as many as you want the more you put on the deeper the pearl effect, for regular solid colors typically you will only need two maybe three if it does not cover well, and a candy is a lot like a pearl since it is transparent the more coats you do the darker and deeper the color. Now for clearcoat you can be lazy and put on two coats if you are not going to sand and buff the clear, most bodyshops put on three if the are going to sand and buff it, and when I do something that I want to make really nice I will put on five coats of clear to ensure that I have enough on there when I sand every inch of the clear and take out any minor bumps and sand down the edges really well where the clear naturally builds up. Any more questions and I will be happy to answer them.

thank you very much you said almost exactly what i was telling them.

have you ever done kameleons?that is the only thing i have not done what do you do to mke it like that if you have tried it.thanks man

I have sprayed Sikkens brand of special effects paint which is the same as the chameleon paint, there really isn't anything special that you have to do the effect is all in the paint not in the technique it is also one of the easiest paints to blend.

I don't spray the paint, I lovingly apply it.......

heheh Depends on the paint and the look you're going for. How much time you want to spend on it. What it is that you're actually painting whether it be plastic, metal, whatever....
Generally 2-3 color 2-3 clear for the basic, "I'm bored, let's paint" paintjob
