I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

I blew my stock rear and door speakers, so I figured it was time to upgrade the stereo system. I currently am looking at getting 4 Infinity reference 6012si speakers (6.5inch) and I already got an alpine CDA-9811 head unit. I've installed stereo systems before but the infinity system in our cars seems to cause problems with aftermarket head units. I would like to keep the stock tweeters because they are not blown and I don't have the money to replace them. Now my question is what do I need to do keep the stock tweets? The installation of the head unit and door and rear speakers seems easy enough, but there seems to be an impedance problem when using the stock tweeters. All the talk of impedance, crossovers, and the like is a little over my head and I am having a hard time following it so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

They'll work for now I reckon. Replace them when you get the money. Besides, you could buy a cheap 10 dollar pair of speakers and they'll usually sound better than stock

But how can I wire them up so that they'll work for now? Do I run them in parrallel in something. But If I do that wouldn't I run the risk of burning out the head unit.

Thanks for the help

Deck runs at 4 ohms. Your dash speakers or your door speakers? Find out what ohm your dash are since that's what I'm pretty sure you want to keep. If they're 4 ohm just hook them up. If they're 8 ohm then you can drop them down. But I don't think you'll fry your deck. To be more precise. You won't.

If it were me, which it obviously isn't.....i'd bypass the entire infinity system...and just hook your deck up however you feel like it. I would have recommended a deck with more than four channels...but other than that, you CAN just patch your tweeters into the same line that your front speakers run off. Granted, that defeats some of the purpose of them being tweeters, in that you won't be able to adjust the highs and lows of them independantly from your door speakers, but it would let you keep them stock, and get sound out of them. Then later on, you could put together some more cash, and come up with some other plans.
That's what I did with my 2g, anyway. Yanked out the infinity pos, got a good head unit, wired everything how I wanted it, and now it sounds just fine. Even after my wife dropped the speakers on the ground a dozen times while we were installing everything. ROFL

i saw a thread on here with a link to a little patch cable that lets you run all the speakers right using the infinity amp under the passenger seat - however, if you are going to bypass that and just run all 6 speakers off of the head unit, i would suggest using some inline capacitors (bass blockers) on your tweets and doors - everything should still work and sound fine

so if i get that adapter that lets u use the stock amp again with aftermarket deck.. will sound improve? i have a jvc deck that is rated at 200watts.. isnt that more than the stock amp? if i amplify the speakers getting that adapter posted above.. i do know the tweeters will now work again.. but will it sound better than just running the speakers from the deck? i have a sub hooked up already if that matters..

as u can tell i dont know isht about car audio.. :notgood:

i'm not sure what the infiniti amp is rated at but you can always run the tweets off of the infinity amp and run the doors and rears off the deck - try a few different configurations and see what sounds best to you

the stock amp is about the same output as most decent head units... but it does have the lowpass and hi pass xovers for the doors and highs.

if you can find the cable, that would be easiest until you decide to go component...

DEF: the black plug mod doesn't work on 97+... yet another plug not in the harness

First off thanks for the help guys.

So, if I buy that cable, I would retain the stock amp which would be good. But how would I go about hooking everything up? Would I just run the amp wires to the speaker outputs on the deck? Or would I run the speakers to the headunit and just hook the amp up to power the tweeters? Other than that thank you guys you have been very helpful.

you would just replace the speakers... no wiring other than hooking up power and ground illumination and acc to the radio.
make surethe head has 4 outputs, ie F and R
