Hi,

I am not sure how the part is called but it is just behind the door and before the beginning of the bumper. I guess I could call it a rear fender but in any case, my question is: how difficult is it to replace one - I got into accident and both my front driver's side fender and that part are dented seriously - weirdly no dents or cracks on the door. I will be repainting the whole car after I replace the parts so I was wondering whether I should get the part fixed from the body shop while painting the car (maybe get a discount on it) or get that part from a junk shop and install it myself before the actual painting?

Can you give me some recommendations? (btw do you think Maaco or EarlScheib can fix the part or I need a good body shop for it?)

Thanks,

Svetlin

Aren't the rear fenders integral with the body of the car?

Rear quarter panel? I don't think you can replace it or get one form a junk yard, you have ot get it repaired.

If you want to replace it you will probably have to cut the rear panel off and have a replacement rewelded. As mentioned above, I don't think its simply a direct replacement. Thats the unfortunate thing about rear quarter panels on almost every semi-modern car.

Thanks guys,

I will repair it then. I hope it does not cost too much. How about a recommendation for the repair - should I use the Maaco where I will get my paintjob or use a professional body shop for this one? I live in Whittier, CA, does anyone knows something good in the area that I can trust for this job?

Thanks,

Svetlin

its quite possible replacing it will cost as much as your car is worth. it DOES need to be cut off, and a new one DOES need to be welded on. The best place to have this done would be a shop, since alot of work goes into getting it cut right, aligned right, and welded back on. Alot of work means alot of hours and that turns into big dollars.

Id say repair it best you can unless you want to shell out the money to get it replaced. As for paint, i wouldnt take anything to macco but if you want to stay cheap on it, that will work.

I just had some idiot side swipe me yesterday. There is no impact damage, but there is a nice scrape going by my fuel door... and it pushed the rear fender / quarter panel in... I'm so pissed, I dunno what to do. I don't really want to have my car cut apart and re welded... but it's probably my only option.

Depending on how bad its pushed in, a GOOD body shop might be able to pull it back out and repair it. Just take it to a local shop and talk to them and see what they say....

But, I'm evaluating my options. I'm either going to see about getting it pushed out, or cut the panel from another car and remove the rear window and replace the panel all together. My buddy has a car that already has one of the front corners of the frame cut out, so hopefully the rear fender is good on it.
