i went out and bought me some Alpine DDDrive 6½" speakers yesterday to improve the sound quality in my car. Well, they sound great but the *** dash speakers are distorting everything now. Plus the rear 6X9 sound bad now too since the door speakers are so crisp. Does it ever end? I am now thinking about going to get some good 3½" or 4" speakers for the dash and a good pair of 6X9 for the back.

My question is this: Is it worth upgrading those dash speakers or should I just disconnect them? Are the door speakers enough?

Thanks guys.

True. I actually went out to the car before and disconnected the dash speakers. Sounds so much better now. Only problem is audio is as addictive as speed. I am ready to go out and by some good 6X9 and a 4 channel amp to power the speakers. Either Alpine or Infinity Kappas. It never ends!!! I need a better job.

Well tonight I went and bought me some nice 6X9 to put in the car. First set was a pair of Focals... very nice. Get back to my house and no dice. They don't fit. They stick out farther than the screws that came with it! So I box them up and bring them back along with a stock speaker for size reference. guy came back with the Alpine TypeR series. Looked good. bring them back, no dice. I banged in the fender well some and still no fit. They have some special bracketing on them that won't go, although they were much closer fit. Still off half inch. If I was to carve up the paneling, then i could get them to fit, but I am not into cutting it all up unless necessary. So, back to the store tomorrow.

Does anyone know iof a 6X9 that just drops in? I'd rather not cut anything unless I have too and if I do, then I would just have them do it since I'd just **** it up.

just get a 6.5" it will sound better (round speaker = less distortion) and is easier to fit.. all you need is an adapter.. i believe schosche sells one.. your local shop should have what you need.. i still dont think you need back speakers though.

I keep hearing that i don't need rear speakers from a lot of people, but when I unplugged them, it sounded so empty with just my 6.5 in the doors going. i even plugged back in the 3.5 from the dash and then remembered why I unplugged them. I like the sound of some good rear speakers. I am not out to win any competitions, just want a decent system. I saw the huge explaination of staging from someone on this board and it makes sense and was very interesting, but not for me.

What do you guys who are into the staging and no rear speakers have in your cars?

yeah i would definately put the speakers in the rear....i can still get you what you need if you want something back there. just let me know what i will ship them out. Im not totally sure but the pioneer premier reference series 6x9's may fit. they sound pretty good. that radio came in also but i saw that you already got it. Give me a hollar bud

Get the eclipse 6x9's they have a small magnet and will fit!! ALSO BEWARE!!! 6X9'S WILL FIT BUT ONES WITH BIG MAGNETS WILL BEND THE OUTSIDE!!! LITTLE SPOT WELDS HOLD THE SPEAKER TO THE BODY. WHEN A HEAVY SPEAKER IS USED THE WEIGHT WILL PUTT THE BRACKET DOWN AND DIMPLES WILL APPEAR IN THE OUTSIDE SURFACE OF YOUR CAR. THE WEIGHT IS FINE UNTIL YOU HIT BUMPS.
THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD. A AUDIO SHOP CAN BRACE THE SPEAKERS UP WITH CUSTOM MADE BRACKETS.
