I plan on doing the project of painting the roof of my car. It's the only spot on the car with bad paint fade and it's all just black so i figured I would try to just sand it down smooth and just repaint it. Anybody have any tips of what kind of paint i should use for it? all of the talons like mine have the black roof, so anyone know which black i should use and what kind of prep should i do?

quick responses would help as I'm wanting to start this this weekend. Thanx

If you don't have a good tank/compressor/paint gun I suggest taking it somehwere to get it done. If you try with spraypaint, or anything other than a good spray gun, you're going to splatter.

I'm sure you could get the black paint code looked up at a local paint mixing store. As for painting it, as mentioned, avoid spray cans. If you have to use spray cans, the only way you will get a desirable result is by wetsanding the area and power polishing it after painting it which is more time consuming than prepping the thing.

well, i do have a compressor and i could have sworn we got a spray kit for it... It was sam's club that had em and they were really cheap. But either way I'm not wanting to do a professional job or anything because the rest of the body isn't in the best shape either with the rust and whatnot. I'm just wanting to make the paint fade a lil better.

If you insist on doing it yourself. I'm assuming you have a compressor in which case you should get at least a cheapo-depot gravity fed spray gun and youll just need a few oz. of paint and reducer. Shoot primer first defenitely, that'll help from making mistakes and take your time.

I do have a compressor. And I will look into getting a decent spray gun (depending on cost). But I'd rather just do this myself and wait til next year when i graduate from school and can start making some money to get the body fully taken care of. I'm just sick of having the really bad paint fade on the top. I even have a quarter size rust hole in the passenger side rear quarter panel. but nobody notices that so much as the paint fade.

Thanks for your guys' input tho. I really appreciate the lookin out.

i would just take it to a local body shop, "not a big name fancy place tho, and not macco. and im sure u could get it done for around 150 bucks, most local shops are pretty reasonable in price

I'm not gonna pay 150 bucks to have a 3 foot by 3 foot square painted black LOL. no offense... Well at least not when I plan to have the whole car painted within a year or so.

shoot, the local MAACO here had a special a couple weeks ago, 200 for the whole car painted one color. Clear was extra.

That said, small can'o'paint and your basic grav feed gun and you are set. not hard to do right, even easier to do wrong. :D

when I said school, I meant universal technical institute and I go to the glendale heights, ill campus which does not have auto body. So I can't do that. but I'll be alright. Besides, having a spray gun is something I might as well have around the house anyways.
