Wheel fitment (1G AWD)

My friend is looking at a set of rims for his 92 Talon TSI awd. I am wondering what offset is best for an AWD vehicle. And what size rim would fit good with still having a smooth ride and not affect the acceleration. Thanks in advanced for your help!

any other size than stock will affect performance one way or the other. I have 17s with 45 series tires with a 1.5" drop and i love the look. Not sure about offset though
