Does anyone know if there's a way to directly connect an iPod to the Stock 2g Infinity Headunit or Amp? I have one of those FM transmitters and the problem with those is that the quality sucks, and it doesn't get very loud. The tape adapter things suck too. And, I know that most people will say "get a new deck" like those Alpine decks. Unfortunately, I can't afford a new deck at this point in time, so I was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to connect to the stock 2g infinity deck. My main concern isn't to control the pod THROUGH the deck, nor charging it, mainly just get better quality sound and loudness via the direct connection to the amp/stereo.

Some ideas I had were:
possibly tapping the unused "CD Changer" DIN Cable to the amp...
or splitting the DIN Cable that goes to the stock HU between the HU and the ipod (I'm sure there's something I can make/find at the store that can split the cable then modify it for a headphone jack)...

So yeah, if anyone could tell me if they've figured out anything for the stock unit, or could tell me if any of my ideas would mess up or could contribute any other ideas... it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It honestly won't be worth your time. IF you were to split the inputs of the factory amp, you would need to split 8 wires there, and have it on a relay network to "block" the HU signal when you were using the ipod. Do yourself a favor and save up the $ for a nice deck with an Aux input. I know you don't want to, but that is the ONLY way you are going to get the nice clean sound you want.

well, assuming i COULD split the cable between the headunit and the ipod right... couldn't I just turn off the headunit and then use my ipod? Cuz the DIN cable is only for the speakers, correct? or no? this is all theory here... someone could just set me straight. but i appreciate that advice. i'm thinking i might just get a new deck. but i guess i just like the whole compeletely OEM appeal.

for the price you probably paid for that ipod you could get a new HU that plays mp3 cds.

Get I-Trip. Its made by apple exclusively for the ipod. Same principle as the FM transmitters, but it is wireless and the sound quality for me is amazing. I too have the stock infinity unit............... :rocks:

i don't know about you but on my stock infinity deck there is an input plug....i just put the plug into that and hit input and my ipod plays through the head unit
