alright, in a few days i am going to buy two 12 inch subwoofers, but seeing as how ive heard so many different things about so many different brands i wanna hear what you guys have to say, what sounds good in your DSM? how much was it? what powers it? if you could give me some of this info i'd really appreciate it, thx :D

:dsm:

Well I got 2 JBL 12 with a 600 watt amp. Sounds good would be even better if i got ride of this bandpass box. I have 3 jbl I paid 140 for all of them. If i was you I would stay with good brand names. Ebay has all ways be a good place for me to fined good deals. Just have to watch out for there feed back.

What are you willing to spend on the subs alone? Are you into SPL or SQ? I could tell you what I think are some of the best subs, but they could cost over $1000, get my drift?

I had 2 12" Kicker Comp VRs with a 600 watt Kicker Impulse amp and that thing slammed very hard, very crisp. I didnt have the gain up on anything. Sounded awesome.

I have a old Audio Art 10" in a bandpass box with a old Rockford Punch 60 powering it. I wouldn't trade it for the world. I had that same setup in my boat and it took a hell of a beating. Now that the boat is in storage for the winter and I pull off all the electronics for storage, I figured I would put it into my car. It sounds great and hits like a son of a b!tch. And thats only 1 ten inch sub in a bandpass with the gains turned way down low.

i had a off the wall named 15' and a 900 watt amp. the mother HIT! it came with my car. i also had to install a hefty amount of dynomatt to stop my car from ghetto rattle.

i've got two audiobahn aw 1200's in a 3 cubic foot sealed box powered by a 1000watt memphis 1ohm amp with the subs bridged down and these things hit hard deep and will do it all day long. they have a rsm rating of 700 watts, and they have a 3 inch throw on them. i'm scared to max out the amp right now in fear of inner ear damage. they're not the clearest subs, but for their price you simply can't go wrong.

I have 2 alpine type r 12" subs in a custom box with a pheonix gold titanium 600.2 amp and it hits 140 db untuned. the subs cost me 250 for the pair on ebay and at most stores about about $250 to $300 each. Then the amp is a $850 unless you can get it when the next years set is coming out. Then you can get it for half the price.

I've been a loyal Kicker Solo-Baric fan since they were introduced, but I won't lie--- the Audiobahn subs are the best thing going right now, and there an unbeatable value. My girl just got one 12" of them and its goin in a 2 cubic foot ported box soon. Didn't try it yet but you can tell by the looks of it that its built to move huge amounts of air. Check the Audiobahn stuff out at http://www.crutchfield.com/ Crutchfield gets your gear to you in 2 days, and if you don't like it, or even if you break it they'll take it back, replace it, or exchange it for free and they'll even pay the return shipping.

thanks , has anyone heard anything about Infinity Reference's or MTX Subs? they look good and from what ive heard from only a few people they sound good.. what you think?

Infinity Reference are the "poor man's infinity" being their value line. If I had the money to drop whatever into car audio, I would set up a couple JBL Power series DVC 12" in a ported box. They hit so hard and so deep, you'll wonder what hit you. They got the rubber surrounds and the kevlar mix cones which are light as hell. The amp is a wash, there are so many good ones out there. If you don't have the money, go with the JBL GT series 12". Not quite as good but will still thump the joint...

I think the best subs for the amount of money.. is MTX Thunder, they are pretty cheap, can get them at Best Buy, and you don't hear many horror stories about them. Basically.. im guessing your entry level right?.. don't go spending $1500 or what not on some crazy a$$ system.. get something cheap, not too loud.. and then slowly work ur way up.. i got 2 10" JL Audio 10w3s. 250watts rms each.. and im only using JL Audio's 250/1 amp, and its loud.. my ears hurt.. i don't think you need anything more then 250watts rms of bass.. thats more then enough =P.. unless you want to be like Mavisky and wear hearing aids next year =P.. hehehe just my 2 cents.

well.. i obviously dont have 15 hundred to drop into a system, im 16 man.. #@%#@%#@%#@% LOL i just want somethin that hits good for not to much ;)

I have worked at major car audio stores (2), and can honestly say that MTX is one of the better 'cheap' mass produced speakers, but not great as far as sound per dollar. Look up the Car Stereo Cookbook, it costs like $18 and will save you from yourself if you don't know much. I personally like Volfenhag and Audiobahn. Comparing stat sheets alone, they bury Kicker, Infinity and JL Audio. If you like rap, go with a metal sub cone, it will hit really hard and produce synthesized music ralistically, but make organic bass guitars sound weird. If you like rock, try a plastic cone, it will make kick drums and bass guitars come to life. Whatever you do, don't touch paper cones for your car, they will die! Good luck

If you are interested in a 15" Audiobahn sub, let me know. I have one I'm willing to sell. PM me or just reply to this post. Thanks.

I would also stay away from the Infinity Perfect aluminum-coned subs. I speak from experience because I had a 12" one in my Eclipse. It was alright for me, but it wasn't the best in terms of sound quality, and it wasn't the loudest or most efficient either. Don't get me wrong it was a great sub, but overpriced for the performance it gave. There are better bang-for-the-buck subwoofers, like the Audiobahns.

here's the deal, you can have the best, most expensive subs on teh market, but they'll sound like #@%#@%#@%#@% if you get a crappy box... so get some good ( not necesarily the best) subs and spend the xtra money you saved on a good box... i'd reccomend a duelly ported box

*rejoices* my 200th post!!!*rejoices*:D

I had a sparkomatic powered graphic equalizer running a pair of JBL Loud &Clears in a truck box in the back of my car and a pair of Blaupunkt 6X9s (on top of my Kenwood head unit and Pioneer Speakers). With the back seats down and cargo caver on there was good bass, it wasn't the cleanest or loudest setup but for less than $200 the value was unbeatable. For a good value in amps i now have a JBL GTO amp. I got it from crutchfield for $70.

I paid like 165 a pair for my aw1200 12's. That is cheap for subs. Considering some people pay almost 10 times that for subs. I would say RF's are decent. I had some for a while back in the day and they lasted. Someone else liked them too, b/c they stole them b4 I got an alarm. I am happy with the audiobahns. I bought them off a friend for 165, but they are probably that or cheaper now new on ebay. This was a while back. He only sold them b/c he got ppi flat pistons. Now has aw1200's again. He liked them that much. Went thru a lot of high end stuff, but the bass was too much for his liking. Audiobahns have a nice balance for the price imo. :thumb:

I have a Boston Acoustics 10" and it hits like a mother. I love playing it for people and then seeing their expression when they see it's only a 10". I didn't originally want a 10" but that's all I could fit in my trunk without going custom. I have about 1000 watts going to it. I would definitely go Boston, but it's up to you. It wasn't that expensive.
