Does anybody have pics of their car with an aftermarket antenna? I hate that tall one and want to replace it, but i dont know what to replace it with.

Yea i'm becomming less and less patriotic and feel like its time to take the flagpole off my car as well. I would love to know as well.

i've got that crazy spyder antenna. about 1 foot tall and screws onto the base. it's black, flexible, and is curvy. check out my gallery to see it.

why is it curvy? can it be straight? where did you get it? how does it go on?

Im sure it can be replaced with some aftermarket one. I want to have an electronic one just like the stock. I replaced my bad antenna from a 99 GSX part-out, only to find that it gone bad after a year.

I went to pepboys and got a plain black one for $7. It looks good and clean and gets much better reception than a power mast antenna. Use the old plastic/rubber base from the power antenna so it stays straight like the factory one.

I had a small black rubbery one on my 1g. It was mayve a little over a foot tall. I'm going to get another one for my 2g. Unless I can find something like what GM uses in some of their cars that either goes around the inside of the trunk lid, or the inside of the rear window, then I'll just shave the stock one.

Was it a hard install?

I think the best solution is:

1) Remove/shave the factory antenna
2) Get an "internal" antenna that mounts inside the dash if you wish to keep your AM/FM radio working. They are common in boats, but have been used in many automotive applications. This is old news guys.

Check the link above, thats the basic concept. Just plugs in. There are ones specially designed for cars.

I had looked into that option, but a black permanent antenna belongs to an RS trim. :) I thought of the shaved look but that's alot of work for just an antenna hole.

I was thinking of a new Sirius radio with the antenna mounted on the body panel where the stock antenna is and use the existing wiring for it.

I cant remember who it was, but someone on here took off their rear windshield nozzle, and mounted the antenna there. It looked good.

Something I did in my spare time.

It's an S2000 antenna, I got the idea from my father who put one on his GTS Celica and Golf, the fit without modification, I had to make a sleeve for it.

Your car is sexy. So it was an easy install?

Yeah, just used a lathe to make the one end american, into our cars which is strange I know and the other end an 8 mm threaded I believe. Then painted the piece, it was a cylinder of aluminum, worked out pretty well.

Okay, anyone know where I can find an antenna that will fit right on without any modification??
