I finished up "hard-wiring" my stock 2G Infinity receiver that I had laying around. Fairly simple. Turned the key, it powered up, dimmed when I adjusted the switch, everything seemed good.

I didn't have the key code (even when I had my 2G :p ,) so I called a Mitsu. dealer out of state that was recommended to me, since no one local would give me the code. One local said if I brought in the car, they'd do it for $32.50  Even if I did, though, it wouldn't matter, because the receiver came out of a '96, which obviously won't match my '92.

Anyways, I got the code, but the receiver is locked up. I tried leaving it on for an hour, in "radio" mode, and when I came back, I turned it off, back on, and it didn't offer me to punch the code in. Anyone know how to do this, or if I'm doing it wrong?

Thanks a lot,

Jesse

Disconnect the batterry for 5 mins and see if it comes back to code prompt when you reconnect the batterry. Soemtimes it resets the sytstem.

The battery was disconnected when I was wiring it in, but I'll try it again tomorrow anyways.

You're supposed to just leave it powered-on, on ACC for about 45 minutes and it should reset to read CODe, then you can re-enter.

Alright, does it matter if the receiver is in "ON" or "OFF" mode? Will it just pop up, or do I need to turn the key off, and then back to ACC?

Thanks a lot, and I'll post pics for anyone else interested later.

From what I've read, it wants to be powered on and supplied by the ACC position. I don't know why you couldn't just leave it on while you drive, but it's never been said to do it that way- maybe power fluctuations make is stop re-setting? I don't know. Or maybe it's just because the procedures are written for a shop.
Anyways, turn it on and watch a show on the History Channel, and it should have re-set by tht time it's over.

Alright, I'm in the process of leaving it on for approx. an hour, I hope it works. I don't feel like buying an aftermarket head unit :p

Update :

Left the car in the ACC position, with the radio in "off" mode (still has power, but isn't supposed to play anything. Just shows the clock.)

After an hour, I had somewhere to go. Went back to the garage, pressed the volume button in to turn it to "ON" mode, and it still didn't ask for a code/play anything. Drove around for the last 20 minutes or so, still won't ask for a code.

I'm going to call the dealership lady that gave me the code, and see what she says. She actually asked if I knew how to do it, and I told her "Yes," thinking the hour thing would be a snap.

Any other ideas before I call?

Thanks,

Jesse

That's what I did the first time around, and it wouldn't work. I suppose I'll try again tomorrow.

I'm going to try it again soon, in ACC, with the receiver powered "On" (so there's no more confusion :p ,) and leave it like that for a while. I'll try the "more than an hour" idea.

Thanks guys,

Jesse

Update :

Tried it in ACC, with the radio powered "ON," in "Radio" mode. Went back out almost 2 hours later, and aside from the clock being two hours different, nothing had changed. It didn't say "CODE" or anything. I backed the key out, put it back in, and nothing. Tried to power the radio "OFF" and then back "ON" by using the volume knob (pushing it in.) Still wouldn't offer me the code.

I called the dealership that gave me the code. He told me to put it in the "ON" ignition switch, and leave it there for about a half an hour. Tried that, went back out, and nothing had changed. Still just has the time, along with a little "ST" next to it (since it was in "Radio" mode.) Turned the key off, back in, switched the receiver's power from "OFF" to "ON," still nothing.

I suppose the radio could be shot, but I don't think it is. I think I'm just not doing something right.

Am I missing something? This is getting annoying.

Thanks,

Jesse

Waitaminute.

Does the radio say OFF?

If not, you just need to input the code. You didn't have anything to clear.

Edit : No, it doesn't say off. It turns on like it should, and I can select between CD, Radio, and Tape (although I can't select Tape because there isn't one in the player.) It just makes no sound.

I was under the impression that because it wouldn't play anything, it was "locked up?"

Blast!

If I try to enter the code, will it show up on the screen, or am I just entering it blindly?

Also, to enter the code, which way should it be done -

from this site, I've read that you enter the first number with the number 1 preset, then hit the number 2 preset to move on to the next number, and then tap the first preset the number of times that matches the number (number "7" equals seven taps) and so on.

The dealer I called earlier told me to enter the first number using the first preset, second using the second, third with the third, and fourth using the fourth.

Which method is correct?

Final update :

I took it out of the car, and put it in eclipseturbo420a's '97 GSX. Didn't ask for a code, just powered on and played music no problem. Worked perfect.

I searched more, and found through another thread that the stock Infinity amp must be used along with the receiver. Because of this, apparently, I couldn't get it to make any sound. There is the main harness, the antenna plug, and two other plugs, and apparently one of those goes to the amp, and I need that setup. To do this just is not worth it.

I will be selling the receiver now, and going with a regular aftermarket head unit now, instead.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Yeah, that's what I'd boiled it down to. But I had to waste my damned afternoon on that godforsaken, worthless Superbowl game.

PM me a price.

Yeh, sorry. Should have caught that earlier.
