I see them everywhere, on your civics, on you dsm's, on your integras..wherever.
I dont fully understand the lure of a carbon fiber hood that horribley mismatches the looks of your vehicle. I may be one of few, but nonetheless, I find carbon fiber hoods offensive.

You heard me. And you're ugly too.
Hmmmm.... Thats nice.. How old are you again? If you don't drive at least one DSM, then leave... It's as simple as that. :thumb:

aw you guys need to lighten up.
and I do own a car, I just got a 98 GSX.

I was looking for actual answers, and that dude gave me a lame one, so i gave him one back.
could comeone actually explain to me the attraction of a cf hood?

I was trying to be serious, and you wern't interested so I responded to you aptly and in jest.
If tattletailing makes you feel good, so be it.

I'm still interested in the lure of a cf hood though.

Well, first of all they are lightweight, and one of the easiest materials with which to lighten a hood. I am a fan of carbon fiber on any color, done tastefully. I especially like c/f on white cars, and enjoy the offsetting of black on white.
Your question may be referred to as stupid by some because one could ask this question about anything. Carbon Fiber is a matter of personal preference and possibly some mainstream trends, but what about a certain type of body kit, or rim. The fact of the matter is that it is personal preference and that you should do to your car what you enjoy, and not worry about what others do.

That my friend is why I gave you the answer I did, and yes reporting posts that serve no purpose does make me feel better about myself.

Here are the main reasons why people put cf hoods on their cars: looks and weight. Depending on the manufacturer of the hoods you could save up to 30lbs. Looks are a personal preference and that is probably the main reason why people use cf hoods. I am on the fence about closing this thread because I sense an argument brewing and the possibility that flaming will occur. I see no real point in this thread but I am giving you the benefit of the doubt. I am watching like a hawk!

Check this, i bought a OEM style CF hood and when i removed the OEM
hood i damn near dropped it due to its weight. The when taking my CF hood out of its shipping wrap I held it up with my left hand (im right handed) and removed the wrapping with my right. Now, i get so many compliments on my car. :thumb: :talon:

When I had my CF hood, I'd laugh as my buddies would fling the hood open because they weren't used to a hood that weighed so little.

thats for a FULL CF hood.. not too common, most are bling with fiberglass or metal backing..

My Vis cf hood was less then half the weight of the stock hood. And the Vis is not full cf. It weighed somewhere around 18 pounds. I think stock is over 40 pounds. Easy way to save weight. Plus if you dislike the look you could always get it painted. And the talon guys look good with a cf hood and black roof. But thats my opinion, you do not have to agree.

I will have to wholeheartedly agree with the talon remark. But other than that, i really dont like CF hoods.

Yeah, I've heard that they weigh like 40 lbs from somewhere, not sure where. So 22 lbs weight savings is quite a bit.

I am new to the whole weight saving thing, is 22 pounds really that much in the great scheme of things? How much will that save in the quarter, thousandth maybe hundreth of a second?

I thought carbon fiber hoods for the mainstream was more for the look/style. I think it looks fine. I never went to art school but I am pretty sure that black goes with everything not just black. ;)

The hoods 99% of people have aren't really full carbon fiber. They are made of mostly fiberglass. But they still save weight and look pretty cool IMO. I don't like them without some paint to help blend them with the car. Just personal preference, but it looks like a primered kit or something to me when they are put on out of the box. :| No offense to anyone. I like it, it's just not what I'd do.
